Man, what great looking car!
Very nice pictures. The first one is the color version of the one posted by Carl on post number 370. Love the color of the car! Do you guys know how many prototypes there are? I just know of the green one from Paris Auto Salon and a slightly different early one seen in some old magazines and referred as the "new Dino" (how could they have known!).
According to Robert Retzlaff's 308 GTB Register: Before the start of production, there were three prototypes (18317, 18319, 18321) Here's a picture of the green one... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly! I've been searching for pictures of this green one on the Internet, and all that came out were pictures of the Kyosho model! If the model is accurate, they apparently decided not to put a cavallino in the front grill. Also, they got rid of the big button on the front bottom to open the front lights and replaced it with a small lever next to the steering wheel. ;-)
I downloaded that picture years ago. Looking at it closer now, I think it's a picture of the Kyosho 1:18 model. The Pininfarina badge is on the wrong side, there's a cavallino on the grill, and I think I see that headlight button down there on the right front. Sorry
Ha ha! I actually thought you were joking when you posted that picture! Yes, it is definitely the Kyosho model. Have to admit they did an amazing job, since they got you believe it was the real thing! So the original one didn't have the cavallino on the grill?
It fooled me. The picture looks like the press photos of that time. There was no cavallino on the grill.
Yes, the 1975 black and white images from the brochure shows the antenna on the roof. However, they are not the same car as the pininfarina scans. Even though the images are black and white, the car from the brochure is almost certainly red. The two pininfarina images show an argento or azzurro car, perhaps the Paris car? Good spot!
But Barry, which prototype! We could split them by gold lettering on the XWXs (Show car), perhaps the "Red" one from the brochure and one other. I don't suppose anyone wrote the chassis number down from the Paris show did they?
I should have read the replies first, thanks Barry, so the B+W images I posted from pininfarina are the azzurro car. But I wonder if this car is the Paris car? It's a shame we can't see the interior from the show image.
There were two cars displayed at Paris... a yellow one (Giallo Fly) chassis # 18677 on the Pozzi stand and one in light blue (Azzuro metallizzato) chassis # 18679 on the Pininfarina stand I believe.
So it means Kyosho got it wrong when they made their "Paris Salon Car" version of the Vetroresina 1:18 model in light green? Was there even a light green 308 prototype?
Thank you Kimbo. This pictures confirms the color picture on previous page, with the light blue car, was taken in Paris Auto Salon in 1975 (look at the rainbow pattern on the floor). So this was the Pininfarina stand, I guess, since it's close to the Bertone one, and there seems to be only one car.
Posted elsewhere on the forum but thought I'd put it on the Vetro thread as well as a point of reference. It's about that unique noise from the dry sump weber carbed engine, another reason why the car's so special. Turn up the sound and listen to the engine note change as it gets to the drivers door and goes past the A post, that's the induction noise of those webers coming from the air intake through the door into the rear quarter. For us lucky RHD owners it's right by your ear, a wonderful sound! 308vetro - YouTube
Hello everyone! I've just written a test (completely subjective ) of my 1976 308 Vetroresina! Not great but it is my first article! Enjoy Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina - Page 1
Thank you Bertrand-Enzo, it's nice to see you're still enjoying the Vetroresina. I noticed a few things that may not be accurate, but one can feel your passion through your article, and that's what matters. OK, you're vision is probably biased, but who could blame you? ;-)
Thank you Franck! What's is not accurate? I could correct it Have you collected yours yet? Or is it still over the seas?
Well, actually I read your text again, and most of the things I thought were doubtful actually weren't! You may want to change figures like 30・000Euros to 30,000 Euros, and maybe indicate speeds in km/h too (or indicate fuel consumption in miles per gallon). Other than that, I am not very comfortable with the 712 glass cars figure. I think it is quite clear that some markets are missing from this figure, and the truth is probably somewhere between 712 and 800. But who knows? Who am I to complain anyway, you're using an official factory figure (OK, it's the same factory that states on their website a GTO was recently sold for 52 million Dollars, when everyone on this forum know this is not accurate at all...). As for the car, it just arrived in Shanghai today, I hope it will reach Tokyo as planned, on the 31st of this month! (by the way, there are also a few sentences that may not be grammatically correct, but I am not fluent enough to correct your English! Maybe someone her would be kind enough to send you some corrections by PM? Or maybe my English is so bad I thought there were mistakes when there weren't? That's a possibility!)
