as I've been researching 308's in general, I keep coming across these kits to convert the 308 into something which looks almost the same as a 288 gto.

whats the general opinion on something like this? I personally love the look of the gto and quite frankly I'll never have a real one.. even if I had the money.. they are so few and far between that the chances of getting one are pretty slim.

anyway, back to the point. what are the quality of these kits like? are they worth bothering with?

I was considering taking on a crash damaged 308 and rebuilding it from scratch using the gto replacement panels rather than official parts. I wouldn't want to convert a mint 308, as that would be a shame, imo.

just throwing ideas around, all a long way off still

    thanks for any feedback

If the donnor car is a wreck then there are two routes to go

    1) rebuild as it was
    2) rebuild something from it

For me, if I had a wreck 308 etc I would seriously look at the costs of both routes. I wouldn't be surprised to find they are about the same. I would thne look at whether I would get a return on that money. It may well be that a GTO built from a 308 could be worth just as much or perhaps more than the 308 rebuilt as a 308.

I think lastly I would look at how I would feel. Driving around a 308 that I could say I rebuilt from a wreck would be OK but saying I built a GTO from a 308 would probably get more interest and make me feel my time was well spent

thats pretty much what i was thinking

bodywork wise, the gto kit will cost about $5k US which doesn't seem a great deal to me, considering is basically everything other than the bonnet and roof.

i don't think it would really work out more, unless it was a bad fit or something. i'd feel happy driving either car, at least u would have the satifaction of having made it oneself

About 10 yrs ago when I had a 328,I used to see what looked like a 288GTO around these parts.Met the guy who owned it at Italia Autosport some time later. He owns the Specialised Car Cover place near Leeds.Had a good look round the car and it really looked the part. Was LHD too of course but both inside and out you could'nt tell.it would make a super project though. Its given me some ideas now

    I'd go for the GTO-look.

I know its not original and all that, but the GTO is such a sensational looking car, and as you say, out of reach of most.

Don't know the supplier of the bits though.
