Hi All, I imported my 308 from the US last year but unfortunately it came with no history - if anyone knows of the car during it's life in the US I would be very interested to hear about it. Thanks, Nick.
I tried Carfax but it cannot find the VIN, I think it struggles with older VINs - mine is 1978 ... Ferrari Market Letter is a good idea, I didn't know they had information, I will try them - thanks for your response.
The 5 digit VINS don't fit at all into CARFAX etc......Ferrari Market Letter is a good idea. Possibly traded hands in the FCA but I don't know that history is searchable..
Maybe a polite letter, and see if redacting personal info they could recap "known locations" or something....worth a try!! The Roush family still operates the FML, I bought an item from Gerarld's widow.
I've completed the form on the FML site so see if anything comes back - if not, at least I've added what I know. I'll write to FCA - can't do any harm right?
I had three cars near your VIN and all but one was totally documented...they were not common "in the day"....
23217 must be a very early '78. Mine was 23421 and the data plate at least said January '78. Yours is a GTS though? The GTB registry lists it here as a GTB. http://www.308gtb.de/serialnumbers.htm Also, many years ago it looks like the books for 23217 GTB were listed for sale... https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/308gtb-23217.55676/
Yep, the data plate is January '78. It's definitely a GTS the GTB register lists the number but no info against it, so it's misinformation somehow. Looks like it was separated from it's books a long time ago, shame, would be nice to reunite them!!
Separation seems to almost be the norm sadly. When I had mine I found and bought a set that was the correct style but wrong serial #. Sold it after I got rid of the car years later. The books have become quite valuable. You can post a request in this thread too but I don't think it's been very active. Worth a shot though!! https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/reuniting-cars-with-their-original-documents.97888/
