While tuning the carbs, I cycled the throttle several times from 5k to releasing the throttle. I noticed some stumbling and popping in the exhaust without the dashpot operational. Popping in the catalytic converters is bad. I have heard it can damage the matrix. I did alot research on the merits of using dashpot in carbed cars. I will get some run time with the dashpot when I drive it under load in a couple of weeks. I am waiting on my brakes, which should arrive this week. I will report on its use on my first drive. I know the adjustment needs to made to get the correct behavior.

Based on a review on multiple articles about the dashpot:

Adjust the dashpot location to obtain full use of the adjustment screw. Turn the adjustment screw away from the dashpot. Rev the engine to 4k and let the throttle go shut. Listen to the rpms drop and watch the tach and verify it goes to idle rpm.

Turn the adjustment screw towards the dashpot until the rpm begins to rise, then back off the dashpot by a full turn.
Push the throttle and release. If the rpms drop when you release the throttle and then rises suddenly, the screw needs to be turned away from the dashpot another turn.

Keep adjusting the screw until there is a smooth transition from 5k to full release. This helps to keep rpms up while you shift gears, reduces exhaust emissions, and minimizes damage to the catalytic converter.

Nope... I wanted to keep the original patina. Replating is for concourses, I am going for preservation class.

You are welcome. I will get preservation class judged in late August, get copy of the judging sheets, and then fix it. I have a couple of friends that concours judge Ferraris. I get them to judge me in two weeks in my garage.

I have the EPA 609 Certification, via online test, and so I charged a 12 oz can of R12 into the AC system. I ran 12v from the battery to the clutch wire to run the compressor and I put the can in a large cup of hot water to get all the freon out of the can. Now, I get cold air when I run the AC. Yea!

Great thread! But will the car be driven, or just make car show/concourse appearances? :)

Yes, it will be driven a little. I live in a small town with nice restaurants nearby. It will be driven to ensure a good mechanical condition is maintained. I used to have 3 other 308s before and put a lot of miles on them. I used two of them as daily drivers for a total of 3 years and 30k miles. I always wanted to show a low mileage Ferrari, since my others were drivers. I will trailer my 308 to non-local events.

Installed all calipers, new EBC yellow pads, adjusted rear brake pads, new ate hardware (except rear pins - the were new but hole was off by 1.5 mm, so I cleaned up originals and installed them) and made up a new brake line for dvr side rear.
Performed a hand vacuum fill/ bleed of brake lines and then had my wife operate brake pedal for pressure bleed.
All brakes work and so does the emergency brake.
I ended up not replacing the master cylinder. Removing the reservoir was not going to happen without breaking something. I tried for an hour and gave up. All the brakes operated, so I will see how it does on the road when I finally complete some other items on my list.

I had to turn back the dashpot adjustment a turn. When the engine got up to temperature it pushed out the bellows and made the rpms fo high when I took my foot off rhe gas pedal. It now runs as it should.
