The air pump has been removed for a long time from the PO. Tonight I was removing the air hoses running form the diverter to the check valves on both banks and down at the exhaust fitting. The question is until I remove the hard pipes feeding the air inlets is it best to plug the valves or possibly run a hose and connect the two banks and keep the system closed? Also what should be done at the valve down towards the exhaust...it snapped at the joint from dry rot.

BTW...can I toss the diverter valve or should I plug it? It is connected to a "solenoid valve". Not sure if it will cause any problems.

You should replace the two check valves "C" that are on the ends of air injection manifolds "E" with brass or bronze 3/4" NPT (National Pipe Thread) female pipe caps -- you should be able to get these at any US hardware store.

With regard to the lines "G" going down to the cats, these would also need to be block/closed (either up at the check valve or where they enter the cats)

Don't "toss" anything ;). Remove both the Diverter Valve "B" and the solenoid valve "F" (aka electrovalve), and block the vacuum line "D" going from the intake plenum to the electrovalve (or remove the vacuum line "D" and cap the fitting where it connects to the intake plenum).
