I have a 1982 308 gtsi. I'm having a problem with the cold start system. The engine wont come off high idle and the cold start light stays on the dash.
Even when the engine has reached normal operating temperature.
The engine runs very rich in fuel and has a rough idle when cold. After engine gets to operating temperature, it still has a high idle. Sometimes after the car is warm, I turn it off, wait a minute, restart it then the idle goes to normal.
Now it wont come off high idle no matter how many times I restart the car.
I have replaced the Thermo time switch and the coolant temp sensor in the reservoir. That didn't help any. I've seen the posts on the auxillary air device so I'm going to try that when i get home. If anyone has any additional comments/suggestions please let me know.

    Thanks, John

Go to a parts store like pep boys and get a bosch noid light. They are less than $10. Plug it into the plug that is hooked to the aux air device and start the engine. If the light comes on with the engine running then the then you are getting power. Pinch the hose that goes under the cold start valve and if the idle lowers then replace the aux air device. The one you want is Bosch #0 280 140 104. This one was used on euro Ferrari's and Porsche, Alfa, VW, Volvo, etc. It will be about 30% the cost of the one that was used only on US version Ferrari's. You can call Mike at IPCO 770-381-1114 he is a Bosch distributor and just got one of these for me last week.

Tell him Larry Fletcher sent you

To be accurate I should have said a noid light, for Bosch type plugs. You plug it into the plug and it will light up when it gets power. It works good to see if your getting a signal to electronic injectors too. I attached some pics of one I hope I did it right.
