Just yesterday my recently purchased '82 308 GTSI would not go into any gear. No matter which gear I select it starts to grinds a bit so I stop. Driven it 200 miles or so since purchase and it worked fine. Suddenly clutch stopped working. Clutch, disc, pressure plate, t/o bearing flywheel resurfaced 2K ago. Read the post regarding clutch pedal adjustment and mine is 2.5 in. below brake pedal. All the doc's I have on cars history have no mention of cable replacement. I have a new one. Have not looked at trans end of cable yet, hopefully next day or so. I plan on adjusting the pedal first unless I find something obvious at trans. Any thoughts on this issue?

Check the nut that holds the bolt that goes through the silent block, mine came loose and came off, the bolt was barely hanging on and it wouldn’t let me shift at all.

21/2”is way to low the have to be even or close for the clutch to disengage properly

Absolutely first thing is get under the car and check the cable at the gearbox end to see if it's broken. If not, I would speculate that you have a broken shift fork. Were you shifting and accelerating aggressively when it happened?

Hoping to get under the car an check trans end today. I let the car warm up to go for a drive and when I tried to go into reverse it wouldn't, every gear I tried did the same. Worked fine day before. With engine off goes into every gear. That 2 1/2" drop with the pedal is new. Was a bit lower but not that much. Thanks for all responses. I'll update once solved.

Update Verified cable is not broken, stretched probably, release arm moved very little. At pedal where the cable is connected to the fork the threaded portion of the cable was tight but the cable was threaded no further than the bottom of the fork. Bit of slop n ithe cable. Pulled on it and pedal came right up. Tightened the cable a little further up in the fork, pedal is close to brake pedal, and it shifts fine. Was the cable supposed to be that way? I've never seen that before. Done alot of clutches this is a new one.

In the process of changing all the fluids. When I got to the gear case oil change I saw the gearcase cover has 1/2 inch hairline crack right at the fill port. Obviously someone tried to remove plug and caused it. I plan on removing the cover and have it welded. I use a shop in town called Metallic Fusion that is top notch. They do all my SS and aluminum jobs. What method is best to get the plug out. First thought was heat on plug once cover is off or soak it in a product I use called 'Thrust'
or something else and see what happens. I won't do anything until it's repaired. Have not drained oil yet. Worst case is buy another cover....TX
