Hi Guys, My father has a 1985 ferrari 308 gtsi qv. We just had the motor rebuilt mainly the heads, but we tore it down to the crank replaces all the gaskets ect. the car is running beyond rough idling very high and feels like driving bucking bull alot of the time... its fuel injected and i think it has something to do with the mixture but i dont know much about these cars. any specialist that can help on longisland????
Sounds like an ignition issue. Might start with distributor and rotor, wiring to correct cylinders, both banks firing. Plug extensions check for holes. Then check fuel system. My thinking being if it was a fuel issue it would run rich or lean but not as you describe. High idle can come from unmetered air i.e. Vacuum leak or bad AAV. Good luck. Also always check the microswitch on the throttle housing. The throttle position sensor should click as soon as you open the throttle with engine off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The "monkey" only did the valve job and the "owner and son" did the tear down. First, please fill in your location and details so someone close may offer some visual help. For this type of problem, you need to get back to basic. Compression, leak down. Fuel pressure: system, control warm, cold, and residual Plugs, wires, ignition spark, distributor caps and rotors Adjust mixture.
"We" must have referred to the "monkeys" in Long Island...as in "We" painted the car green..."We" recharged the AC..."We" tore the engine back down to the crank to see what the monkeys did wrong...he should have said, "We" had the monkeys tear it down to the crank... So sad! Why is it so difficult to get something repaired correctly, if at all, these days...it's a rhetorical question...we all know the answer....Coop, it will be impossible to diagnose this without hands on...take it back...and good luck!
What kind of a mechanic returns a car to a customer in the condition described? And what kind of customer accepts a car in this condition? Always blows my mind!
too many possibilities. If it wasn't for the teardown I'd start with the ignition, but with the teardown my first worry would be if the cams are set right; because that can do the most damage. Assuming valves were all adjusted to spec...??? Good Luck! and I don't mean that sarcastically; these are fun cars to drive when they are running right, but they do need to be to spec to get the most out of them. Hope you get it sorted out soon
