I'm a newbie here - just bought my first Ferrari yesterday, a '77 308 GTB. I'd appreciate any advice anyone here can give me. When I turn on the headlights, both lights turn on, but the left one doesn't pop up. Can someone tell me what I should check, what the most likely causes are, and if there is a way to manually raise the headlight? I live in Hawaii and my car has to pass a safety check before I can even register it, so it would be useful just to raise the light up temporarily to pass the test and then worry about fixing it. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Happened to me.... but my right head lamp was loose / disconnected. If you're able to lift the head lamp up by hand, open the front bonnet..look on the side of the head lamp and there is a connecting arm....a half moon E clip holds it in place and fell out. I reseated the arm and headlamp and replaced the clip. (available at most auto part stores.) Oterwise hopefully someone else will chime in with some info....good luck

There is a relay and fuse for each headlight motor. 1st check them. Also if you open the hood and look buy the headlight assembly you can see a fair size black knob on the headlight motor. You can turn this by hand to raise the headlight manually. But befor you do this check all of the connections and relays. If all else fails then do it manually until you have time to troubleshoot the problem.

First thing to check is the fuses. Then try swapping the relays between left and right. If that has no effect, check that the mechanical linkage is intact and snug. Then it maybe the motor itself (or the plug to motor) or diodes on the motor:

Well, I did the obvious first - checked both fuses and then swaped the two realays to see if the problem either moved to the other light or just went away. Nothing changed, so I turned the black knob on top of the motor a little which didn't seem to do anything. But then when I tried the headlights again, they both popped up. The left one came up slowly, but it did come up. I doused the motor and all the friction points with WD40 and now it works beautifully. Thanks for all the advice.
