Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not sure of exact name, but the things that hold the hood up on 79 308gtb will not work (stay up) when cold and even when warm the hood slowly inches down after short while. Any way to fix without buying new set?

    Thanks Bob

Somebody posted here about a year ago for a place that will rebuild the struts for around $25 each. I'll try to find the thread.

New ones from T. Rutlands in Atlanta are listed on eBay for $100 per pair and you know they'll be correct. If you're an FCA (Ferrari Club) member, call Rutlands at 1-800-638-1444 and be sure to ask for your discount.

Old threads here on FChat also report that they can be ordered from NAPA or Autozone or PepBoys... Stabilus part number 92307 or Autozone/PepBoys part number RB87905038

From another thread here's info for Advance Auto: "order strong arm strut #4760. the number on the label below the bar code is 43645 63054 and the sku number on the label which was attached to mine is 3722872"

Rather than Stabilus, if your parts store carries SACHS, then the number is SACHS #: SG237001

If you do an FChat search using "308 strut" you'll find those threads and more.

You can get your gas springs recharged at http://www.lstechnologies.ca/

Super service, excellent results and quick turnaround. I've had 3 springs recharged and 2 fabricated from scratch with these folks. You can can search the board to find others that have used them. Give Stephen a call and mention Fchat.

Keep searching this sight. I saw whereas someone claims you can get from your local Napa Autoparts, and they had the part number listed.

I bought a pair direct from the manufacturer in Germany "Stabilus" got them for about $35 each but took 12 weeks to get them.

Actually, '79 was the first year for the pnematic struts.

If you don't want to spend the money now, just get some of the black "paper clips" with the chrome handles (that flip over) and use those as stops.

Good point. Heck, there's an Fchatter here (NC forum) that drives around town with Vice Grips in the glovebox. When he pops the hood, he clamps those bad boyz onto the strut, and considers it a good solid fix!!

    (NO, it's not me!)
