    I'm starting this project.
I do want to replace cloth hose with cloth.
I've found 3,5,7mm no problems at local VW/Bosch houses. I'm searching for larger sizes.

I've seen postings showing all the hoses & sizes for a 308carb & 328 but the english sized hose.
Does anybody have a list of all the hoses in their native Metric sizes?

Also, my QV has some cloth hose & some rubber. was this original or is the original all cloth?

    Thanks in advance,
    Clyde M.

Keep us posted on what you find. I'll be changing all the hoses on my '83QV now that the engine is out.

I've found a source for German Braided hose. But I just need the lengths & diameters to place the order.
Anybody with the original ID/OD of the hoses & which were braided vs. smooth outside?

In my search for 7mm hose for the fuel lines, and 15mm for the vent lines I found that some of the local supply houses with the German stuff was way to small. I blew $22 on 7mm hose that turned out to be 6mm hose. When I brought it back, the parts guy said it was supposed to be a snug fit so it doesn't leak and that the metric hose only comes in odd sizes (3, 5, 7..etc.). The next size up would be too big.

Well I trashed that stuff and got some 7.5x3mm hose from http://www.autohausaz.com and the Gemi style clamps. They also have the braided 7x2.5mm hose. I talked to one of the parts guys via e-mail and he confirmed that 7mm hose is not quite 7mm on the ID (but certainly larger than the 6mm I had purchased).

Make sure if you buy local it's the correct ID. The fittings are 7mm on the car and the bung on the end of the fuel fittings is ~8mm. The plastic fittings near the gas tanks/filter/pump are 7mm+. Be careful when you slide the hose onto them.

I just put the 7.5x3mm smooth hose on this weekend. Double checked everything and have no leaks. Consider doing the filler kneck as well. Napa PN 1055 sold by the foot only. Cut the old one off, soak the new piece in hot water and it will slide on relatively easily. It's a little bit larger than OEM but works. Just be sure and clamp it down good and snug.

Sorry, I can't confirm what the exact dimentions of OEM are. My old hose was almost 8mmx3mm, but it had been replaced at some point by the PO. I think it was actually 5/16".

Search under 1980 Mercedes 280CE to find the listings for smooth and textile covered fuel hose and the Gemi clamps. I used priority mail and got my order in 3-days. It's sold in bulk, the price is for 5-meters for the smallers stuff and 1-meter for the 15mm sized hose.
