    My 1976 308 is a dry sump European Vetroresina. I want to put in new ignition coils and it looks like the ones I currently have use ballast resistors and are marked "BK 3A". However, when I ordered coils from GT car parts, I got "BK 2A" coils. It looks to me like the old coils use a 0.8 ohm resistor and so, I'm wondering if I can use these new coils? If so, do I use my ballast resistors? I've attached pictures. thank you steve

    Have you measured the resistance in both coils?

    I planning to do the same on my 77 steel dry sump - what did you figure out?

    When all was said and done, I retained my original coils
    Magneti Marelli BK3A (BZR201R) with ballast resistors
    onecould also use: Bosch “Red” 0 221 119 030 with ballast resistors

    My problem turned out to be a bad condenser, so I replaced both. Good luck and let us know how you do

    I don't know the details of the coil differences, but one difference that I know of on the points-based 308 is:

    Early 308 had an extra relay that put the full +12V (i.e., the battery voltage during starter motor cranking so might be 10V) on the coils during starting (key in POS III) and then dropped the voltage to the coils thru ballast resistors for engine running when the key was released to Pos II;
    while,
    Later 308 had the ballast resistors in place for both starting and engine running.
    I like Wayne's thought to measure/compare the primary coil resistance of both coils -- my guess would be that the later coil has a lower primary coil resistance so will get fried (overheat) if no ballast resistor is used -- but just a guess.
