Lost keys and need to take lock to locksmith. I've searched and have gotten hints that it can be removed without dropping steering column but I don't see how it can come out. I know about the security bolt that has to be removed but it looks like the column has to at least be dropped down. Am I missing something Ferrari gurus?

I would call rifledriver to see if he is willing to lead you to success. When I removed my lock, I had to drop the steering column. Not a big deal, but it had to come out.

Used to do them once a month or more. Remove bolt, rotate lock and remove. Steering column is adjustable. I suppose if it adjusted to a weird angle it may not be that easy but if not just loosen the 2 adjusting bolts and move it.

Thanks guys, Rifledriver it sounds like you mean pull the keylock mechanism out of the column lock stalk instead of removing the whole column lock assembly . Is that what you mean? Or are you saying by rotating the stalk assembly it will clear the hole and the dash enough to come out? I don't work or see under the dash on my back as well as I used to sadly.

Ferrari only supplied complete assemblies. Only way I ever took them out.

I can tell you that it sucked and was inconvenient to take my lock out and rekey it (myself)
    I pulled the entire column

Just an aside...you might want to check the condition of the little black ignition module on the back of the lock. The ignition key wears them out..not if.. when. I would replace it now"while you're in there". A hundred bucks now plus two minutes, or a hundred buck later, and you get to do this entire exercise again later. Just a thought, that is..unless you really love standing on your head in hundred degree weather. I hope that this is of some help to someone. Thank you. Jq.

The key never touches the electrical switch. If the genuine German switch is used and not the Asian made knock off they are pretty reliable and were used in a host of German cars. My 88 got its original switch replaced just a couple of years ago. 20+ years? Not bad in my book.
