Happy Father’s Day to all dads! I have a 1983 308 GTS QV, which I have owned for 12 years. It has 49,000 miles on it. I put about 1500 miles on it a year and it has been very reliable. Recently, it was not running well, so I had new plugs, plug wires, air filter, cam shaft seals, and injectors put on. It runs great. However, I put about 200 miles on it since that service and an issue has developed. I tried to turn off the car and it will not turn off unless the key is removed. When I turn the key counter clockwise in the ignition cylinder to the “accessory” detent, the engine stays running. If turned to the “off” position, it still runs. The engine shuts off only when I remove the key from the ignition. I noticed that when I turn the key to the “accessory” position, the hand brake light is less bright. I don’t think the issue is related to the service. Any thoughts on what is wrong? Thanks, Chris
Maybe relevant, but the ignition itself of my 82 Mondial (which has the 308 engine) is also flaky. Right now going through a motor-out rebuild, but addressing the ignition switch is needed. I looked a bit and could not find a simple replacement. There is a "cleaning procedure" that requires dissasembling the steering plastic covers ... pretty straightforward - I did such and it did not help me, but maybe it will help you... BTW, if you find a way to get a new ignition switch, please let me know!
