I recently replaced the spark plug and coil wires on the rear cylinder bank of my 308QV. Easy enough to do, everything marked on the distributor cap, wires, etc. So I get it done and try to start and nothing! Turns over fine but no fire - not a pop. What I can't figure out is why I'm not at least getting something out of the front bank which I didn't touch? Of course I'd also like to discover how I blew in on a (seemingly) simple task. I'm a little new to Ferrari repair and maintenance but I'm a decent enough wrench for most stuff.

Got the power wires hooked up to the coils?

Did you loosen any wires on the distributor?

I have an older carb'd 308, so I am not sure how similar our ignitions are, plus I have twin MSD's.

You need to now determine if:

    1. spark occurs at the plugs during starter motor cranking (i.e., no fuel)

    or

    2. spark does not occur at the plugs during starter motor cranking (i.e., no ignition)

Have you tried unplugging the safety switch and turning the key "on" to confirm/deny (audibly) if the fuel pump runs?

I'd check fuel pump 1st too.

Turning the ignition on but not far enough to crank over the enigne do you hear the pump running?

Another quick test would be to remove the rubber plenum hose and squirt a few seconds of starting fluid into the plenum. Crank the car and if it fires you've lost fuel supply somewhere along the line.

Here's a long shot. When I replaced my fuel pump I basically hot wired the pump (with an in-line fuse) to one of hte prongs below the coil wire (you'll know what I mean if you look in there) which is only powered when the key is on. Anyway, if someone else had done this and you knocked the wire off the prong in changing the coil wire your pump wont be getting any power.

Good luck and let us know what the problem was.

Make sure you also refitted the carbon brush in the centre of the distributor. When I did mine I realised that I had forgot to put it back in just after I tightened the cap :D
