308 is finally out for summer, few questions..

    Yeah I waited a little too long but it's finally out of storage. It's running great and is a real joy to drive as always, but i've got a few questions about some issues. Any help or suggestions on the following issues would be appreciated! Car is a 77 308 GTB.

    1) When I pull up to a stop light, the idle likes to stick at 1500-2000rpm. If I very quickly blip the throttle, I can get it to drop down to 1000rpm.

    2) Oil pressure. It seems like, starting last summer, it was a little lower than it used to be. At speed, it stays at a steady 85lbs but at idle it drops down to that first white hash, between 0 and 85. I seem to remember it used to be a lot higher, like 85lbs at idle and between 85lbs and 170lbs at speed. It's been about two or three summers since the oil was changed, but only about 1500 miles, if that could be an issue (it still looks pretty clean on the dipstick, and a few quarts to make up for lost oil so it's not all old).

    3) The Carbs. I had them tuned last summer, but was told they need a rebuild soon and might not hold their tune. Ran great for a few months, but when I put the car away last fall the carbs had obviously lost their tune as the engine had that rough sound, you guys with pre-1980 308s probably know what I mean. When I drove it home last week, and so far, the car runs perfect, and doesn't sound out of tune at all. The strange thing is, I didn't touch the carbs, and it sounds back in tune.

    That's about all, and should give me some stuff to work on :) Thanks for your help.

    Regarding the throttle, make sure your floor mat is all the way back. LOL! You might have a sticky cable that just needs some cleaning and lubrication.

    Change your freaking oil!

    Regarding the carbs, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    1. Check to see that your floor mat is not pushing on you accelerator pedal. If not, check trottle linkage, see that it's smooth or adjust idle on carbs.

    2. You should change your oil. As for what kind, search it, the topic has been discussed ad nauseum. Use a filter with a check valve. Test your oil pressure sender, most often, that's the culprit.

    3. The carbs on my car haven't been adjusted in 7 years, and they always run better at the end of the season before storage. Driving your car regularly is the best adjustment/workout your carbs could get. This thing about yearly adjustment (or every few thousand miles) is bullsh!t.

    Is it true that the carb cars need to have their legs streched and be driven hard fairly often? I seem to remember reading that in a buyers guide a few years back. The PO of my car was older and said he never had the car over 3000-4000rpm. That sounds like it could be a bad thing.

    They need driving, and even if it's not your thing (though i would have to ask, if not why have a Ferrari?) they need to really be opened up now and again to let them flex their muscles and breath a bit.

    Imagine if you shuffled about everywhere, were made to sit down for days on end and was then asked to sprint 100 metres, something may well break!

    The idle speed may well be a sticking throttle cable that hasn't had any movement, and therefore lubrication for about 6 months or however long it has been sat idle for (no pun intended!).

    Oil degenerates - I'd change it pretty quick!

    Your oil psi sounds normal to me, but you still should change it.

    Carbs don't just go out of tune, especially when sitting in the garage.
    Although they can get gummy by just parking you car for the season.
    If they haven't been rebuilt in the last 10 years, it might be a good idea to do so.
    Once they are setup and synced, they hold there tune.
