Actually Gilles did that every chance he had in his 308s...Enzo approved very much (at least when he used to do it). Personally i think its wrong myself...and annoys me when i watch these things.
Has anyone seen those folks who get into the burnout pit at The Iron Horse in Daytona? Same thing, just done with motorcycles. Tons of smoke and the engine glows red from the heat. I've heard people comment that those who do this with cars/motorcycles have more money than brains. IMHO, its their vehicle, they can do with it what they want.

Paint, clutch, transmission, differential. Bear in mind that he's spinning the tires, but the coefficient of friction on the surface is not constant. i.e. there may be sand in some areas, but there could be rocks or pavement in other areas. When he hits an area with higher coefficient of friction, the tires try to grip and that sends more load through the entire driveline.
I did a nice one for one of my sponsors over the weekend, a little loose gravel indeed helps...he wanted to buy the car! Leaving the Grand Prix Pit Party, I gave it just enough juice for the diff to kick in, yielding a satisfying rubber 'chirping' sound..... No need for a full light off Downtown, I was just stoked to be leaving with that model's phone number 'on the hip'.....a nice girl, single Mom.......in college.
The thing I would be most worried about is the sandblasting. Other than that, the car can take it. It's a Ferrari.
I skipped over this thread's link for a few days, but finally clicked on it today expecting to see the rear view of a 308 doing a drag racing start. Boy was I surprised! Would be nice to see the person driving so we know what a dumb ass looks like.
People having fun in their car. Who cares? You guys are about as uptight as they come. I smoke my tires every chance I get. When they wear out, I'll buy new ones and do it again. Getting the back end to break loose in a turn and then stomp it as I screech away in a cloud of burnt rubber....yeah, that's why I bought the damn thing in the first place. I was thinking sort of the same thing...I havent seen the video (work has youtube blocked) but a little tire roast now and then isnt really a big deal is it? I understand a little wear and tear but isnt that what these cars were made for, a little fun...not just a show car but a show car that can run like a scladed ape! Like I said I havent seen the video but unless he is dropping the clutch at 6k I dont see how it is that big a deal? A little wet pavement makes things a lot easier on the driveline and the sand should do the same.
There are a lot of shops that make good money on this sort of thing. Anyone priced a set of axles, transmissions and clutches rebuild lately? Ferrari didn't put 9 inch Fords in the back of these cars and that whimpy clutch wont take much of it either.
