Hoping for some help/advice. I have an '85 308 QV that is making clicking and clacking sounds on starts up. The oil pressure gauge is at zero and the oil light is not on when running. Noise seems to be getting worse. When I look through the oil filler port on the valve cover I can see oil squirting up. Any advice would be appreciated as I'm mechanically inclined. If this turns out to be more than a 3 hour job I will need to take the car to a mechanic. I live in Davis, CA and would like a reference to a Ferrari Mechanic.

Does oil pressure go up as it warms up and does clicking and clangking gets louder as it warms up?
If it does? please don't start your engine anymore until you know for sure what's causing it.

The first thing to do it get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and confirm the pressure. You are seeing oil squirt up top and that can't happen at the indicated 0 psi....so you need to know what the presure actually is. The total time to find and fix whatever is wrong could easily go over 3 hours.

Thanks for the advice and info. I ended up borrowing a mechanical oil pressure guage, installing, and testing from where the sending unit is -- no pressure. While I'd love to tear into this thring and find out specficially why -- I suspect this will take me way more than 3 hours. This may sound wimpy but I am going to have it towed to Eric Corfee Auto Service in Sacramento, CA. I've heard he does goood work. Again, thanks for the info.
