I am in the process of replacing my old soft motor mounts with a set of urethane mounts from Summitt and modified to fit by Sean, (Lucky Dynes). The car would not shift in hard turns at the track.

So, I noticed, while doing the back two mounts that the left mount sat "in" a stout, pocketed, washer, while the right mount sat on top of a washer that filed the recess in the pocketed washer under the right mount. The left lower bolt had a big washer under the head, the right did not.

Loooking at the front mounts, it looks like the left front mount sits in the pocket, while the right mount sits ontop of a washer fillling the pocket.

The car is a 77. I got the car with "22k" on the clock, and have no real service history, so don't know if the engine has ever been out before.

    So,

Is there always a big flat washer under the head of the lower bolt and does the mount sit down in the pocketed washer???

Or are there different washers, above or below the pocketed washer to account for "production tollerances"???

My inclination is that the mount should sit in the pocketed washer and that the bolt should have a stout washer under its head.

    Once again, mired in ignorance

So, here's a parts manual shot of the mounts.

The rear mounts seem to show only one washer under the mounts,(33), the fronts show possibly 3?? (30, 31, 32).

So, one or more of these must be shims. If so, how do you know where they really go.

    Even more confused,

On my 79 the front has the tall spacer the rear is washers. Bottom line is the front will have the thicker setup than the rear mounts. Not sure if the earlier cars used several spacers to add up to one like on my 79 but they will be thick up front, thin in the rear.

Start our with thick spacers under the front mounts and thin spacers under the rears. Then check the alignments of the shifter, clutch cable, etc to make sure everything lines up correctly and the engine sits level. Shim as necessary.

    Thanks Newman and Paul,

Next week when i get around to the fronts, I will go with the thicker shims/washers in the front and the thinner in the rear, all the while checking for shift shaft binding. That is what started all of this work in the first place.'

Sean, clear out your PM box, it is full.

How do others of us get these urethane bushings?

    Thanks,
    Doug

Do you notice any real difference, in the transmission of engine vibration from the original mounts????

It feels like a Magic Fingers massage, in your seat backs?????

yep ... I'm not sure if this is a good explanation or not, but when I first installed them I had been contemplating a 355 and had driven a few of 'em. The vibration from my 308 felt more like a 355 ... but that could've been just because my stock motor mounts were so soft.

    cheers

Nice Tex ... she'll luv 'em ... ala Harley Davidson beatch pad ;) ... might have to put a towel on the seat if you treat your car like a museum piece (doh!) ... vs. a brothel LOL.

No museum piece, I badly mangled the nose not long after that shot!

I may have to get with you, and try a set out.

    Hi Sean,

Thursday, i will install the two front mounts. As far a vibration, the only noticeable difference was at idle where i felt a bit more vibration. Not objectinable a all.
