took my 308 for a drive yesterday, as i was pulling into my driveway it started running oddly. it will not run above an idle, i checked fuel delivery and it's ok so im assuming the prob. is dist. related, i have the millermon conversion with msd box, anyone out there w/similar setup had this problem? i had been running semi hard for a while with no prob. then it occured suddenly while i was going slowly, any ideas would be appreciated, as i prefer thinking it out before i tear into it. thanx in advance to anyone who has any ideas.

I'm not a technician, but I'm sure the first question is going to be: what kind of 308 do you have? Carbs, injection or inj.qv?
And I know most people on F-chat prefer to answer to a person, so I would fill out my profile if I were you to get more response. Good luck!

Assuming that your fuel system is ok, then you have to look at the ignition. The dual point distrubutors is probably the problem. One set of points is for idle and the other is for high speed. I would look there first.

I'm not a technician. I remember reading this in one of the many website concern with Ferraris. So I don't have any details on the distrubutors. Check out the ferrari web sites and you'll find the info there. You'll have to do some digging though.

If your distrubutors need a lot of work, you may want to consider converting to an electronic ignition system. There's a bunch of them out there so you'll have to do a little research to see which one you like. Petronnic and crane seem to be the most popular. There's some information here on the list about the electronic systems.

    Good luck

the ignition system is a millermon so it is electronic (no points single dist.) and popping throttles at carbs has no effect the car is a 79 308 GTB also ichecked fuel flow and it's fine, i'm reasonably certain the prob. is ignition related, was hoping someone with a similar ig. had the same problem i'm betting it's something simple i just havent thought of.

Try checking the plugs. See if any of them are fouled.

Classic fuel flow problem symptoms, but I'll take it at face value that's not it. This is basic troubleshooting. Since your hunch is ignition, you need to swap out what you have and see if that fixes it. If so, then the Millermon gurus can advise you. If not, I'd recheck fuel flow. Replace the gas filter, the be sure the lines are clear and the pump is pumping correct pressure.

It could also be the plug extenders. They will burn a hole and arch against the cam cover.

Pull the spark plug extenders and look inside for white film and a blue color on the wire inside. If there is, then look on the outside of the extender and see if there is a hole.

My car had a similar issue and I replaced them all and it cured the problem.

    Good Luck.
