I have always had problems with leaking valve covers on my '85 308 with many attempts to correct them with changes in gaskets and sealants. A previous owner of an earlier 308 suggested that may be there is a problem with the oil separator on the evaporator system and that my car is getting a positive pressure at the cam covers that is causing this leaking. Does any one have any experience with this system? Is it possible that the separator canister is plugged, and needs to be cleaned or replaced? Thanks, Norbert
Should be removed and cleaned every major service. More often if in a humid climate. They have a series of internal baffles and get moisture in them. If the car is not driven long enough distances to get the entire system very hot from time to time the moisture rusts the internals of the vapor seperator and clogs the drain port to the crankcase.
