TV alert... Pawn Stars on Monday night will feature an ‘84 308. Curious to see what the “expert” has to say about it and what they offer the seller.

Any Ferrari owner who thinks it’s a good idea to except an offer on his vehicle from a pawnshop deserves to be bent!

    I agree
The same is valid for lots of other valuable and rare items. Why people brings them valuable rifles, paintings, historic documents, rare artifacts, etc, etc, knowing they will be offered cents on the Dollar baffles me.

Never believe anything you see on TV and half of what you read. Like JV said, its all pre-scripted.

Caught the episode last night... here's the quick rundown:
1984 QV, White w/boxer trim, all original, just under 28,000 miles, very clean and well maintained. Owner wanted $80,000.
Appraiser came in and absolutely loved it, drove it and had nothing but praise for the car and 308s in general, calling them the flagship for Ferrari in it's day.
Appraised it at $75. Pawn guy offered $63....the owner was willing to go down to $70, but Pawn guy stuck to $63, so there was no deal.
Interesting bit was the appraiser thought the uniqueness of the White w/boxer trim added value over traditional red ones.

Interesting (non) outcome, but still likely faked... who doesn't want to have a cool Ferrari on their "reality" show? By not making the "sale," they eliminate the easy verification of the fake.

Like all reality shows, everything on Pawn Stars is scripted. It's no different than a TV comedy/drama show - the writers/producers decide what is going to happen and the "actors" follow the script. For PS, the producers actively search for interesting things to have a "seller" bring into the store. It is known beforehand by everyone involved what is going to happen to the item. In many cases, the item represented as "found in the closet," or whatever is an interesting item from another shop or collector, solicited/selected by the writers/producers to be brought in by someone to "sell." It may, in fact, actually be sold to the Pawn Shop if that was agreed on beforehand. As has been noted, IN REAL LIFE, nobody is going to take a Lamborghini (or whatever) to a pawn shop to sell it.

That being said, I admit to watching Pawn Stars on a regular basis! :)

Maybe the Hollywood Oscars and the Emmies, et. al. should have a category for these "reality" actors!:D

Never say never and it happened right here on F-Chat where a fellow member bought an early carburetted Lamborghini Countach for an absolute song from a Pawn Shop a few years back. Here is the story:

    Hey,
I hope the owner gets that number or at least close to it. It will help the 308 market to adjust to what these cars should really sell for.

These shows are all staged. Storage Wars is probably the worst when it comes to being total B.S. Pawn Stars, while staged, at least is selecting items from folks who line up on a "filming" day. So they are really making (or attempting) to complete a transaction. So at least there is some reality. With that said, when they are filming, everyone comes out of the woodwork to try and be on the show. FWIW, I love Pawn Stars. One of my favorites.

I agree. Most of the reality shows are staged with the exception of "Naked and Afraid" . The true reality show.

Actually all those numbers feel about right (maybe a tad high) for this car based on the mileage and the unique (I say attractive) paint scheme.

Who knows what condition it's in underneath the shiny paint.

It's probably as real as pro wrestling...but man Storage Wars was fun to watch when it first came out maybe a year or so before pawn stars. These shows were/are great to watch while flipping channels between regular season MLB-unless it's red sox vs yankees which pretty much is going to be pro wrestling next year

Some of you guys also must have missed the saga of the second Miami Vice TR. Owner pawned it at a shop in Miami for like $30K. Pawn shop owner put it on the auction circuit for a couple years wanting as much as $1M. Recently sold at auction (IIRC Barrett Jackson) for $100k then new owner flipped it overseas for undisclosed amount of $

I loved Storage Wars until I learned the producers were placing items ahead of time in the units. I haven't watched it since.
