Is it between 195 and 220? Danger zone? I hate this heat. Car would run better if it were late fall at 60. I can't allow the car to sit like it did and have problems later. I guess early mornings would be best.

The needle typically should point straight down or a little to the left. Anywhere in that area is nice.

When I did my new rad, I also put in VDO gauges and an adjustable cooling fan. Fan is set to come on at 195, gauge reads almost exactly that when the fans kick in. I can seem to hold right there even in the 90 degree heat. 220 is getting up there though

my 308 runs at or just below 195 regardless of the outdoor temp or driving conditions. well, maybe once it got just above 195 in boiling stop and go driving. i can't hear the fans coming on, but it must around 195. 220 does seem high.

I have the same issues in my '84 QV. Was running fine for a while, but now it's at the 3/4 mark on the temp gauge in *anything* other than wide open highway at 60 mph or above, on a relatively cool day. Any other circumstances and the temp is too high. In the shop right now having the radiator cleaned and thermostat replaced (though my fans DO come on at 195). Also there's foam missing under the hood, which may or may not have an effect (there are varying opinions on this here on Fchat).

Search by the way, there are a few other threads on the topic.

Mine too runs at just under 195 typically. Sometimes on or just above the 195 mark if its really hot and I run the AC.
I know I need to get some of Birdmans fuse blocks and I'm sure my fans will preform even better!

    Cheers!

Are you sure both your fans are coming on ? Next stop would be to be sure that the system is properly bled (tricky on a 308 - lots of threads here) - other than that drive faster to get more air flow !
