patro, did you go for the AROC GT in malaysia over the last weekend ? I heard it was a total Blast ! Balls out driving all over 'B' roads in Malaysia ..... handbrake turns in the middle of small towns ..... makes me want to get an Alfa just to take part !
I know...I should have gone but I had too much work to do over the weekend. Check it out in the AROC SG (new) forum: http://www.aroc.org.sg/xoops/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30&forum=3&start=0 I'm sure we'd welcome any Ferrari! You'd be welcome to join us next year. Check out the photos here: http://www.geocities.com/c_sportivo/AROC_GT2005/index.html My favorites:
That's my car...actually, this is my car; can I see yours...: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One of the more interesting threads I have read so far here.... Patro...stick to your 147, if you really must...then buy a late model Ferrari when you are back in the US. You will probably find that the 308 is in the workshop more than you want it to be if you were to buy one here as your daily ride. Great adviCe from Tifosi66!
This was from our trip to Cherating. Totally wild ride from JB to Cherating vide the coastal road and back , doing 160 on "B" roads and lookin' out for stray cows (!). the 145 belonged (at that time) to a Petronas Works touring car driver campaigning the ATCC now. Imagine ... 4 wheel drifts on open roads with the sea on your side .... please tell that blardy Lionel to stop scaring the local villagers !! cheers !! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice, is that a turbo? Pretty fast! Which Lionel? The one with the black 147? That 145 belonged to Farique Hairuman?
Yeah, well here in SG there's no way I'll be able to have a Ferrari. I'm very happy with my 147. I hope I'll be able to afford a late model Ferrari when I get back to the US. Then I'll just live in a shack.... Where are you from Yogi? SG?
Lok Pak Cow(!) Pak... Nice number you have Pistole...hehe. As an aside...is that Lionel a Singaporean who used to back in the days of yore own a very nice and fast Alfasud Trofeo ? If he is the person what's he driving now ? A group of us went to Kuantan on the first ever Romeos-On-The-Hunt in '91 I think. That time there was no AROC and only the diehards like Mustaffa/Azlan/Syed plus a couple of SG folks.. When I get back I'll meet up with you guys and arrange for a full on Italiafest ( hooning on stretches of B roads, like you said and I do have certain connection for these..). Sad part is I doubt many Ferraris will be there.. However I can confidently say TWO ! Mine's ( a surprise that I told you ) and also a racer. I don't mind getting spanked by a white FIAT... because a 147 and a Coupe has better visibility, yadda, yadda.. After all without your maker Ferraris would've been in a ****load of trouble!
Patro Come on dude! You don't have to live in a shack in the US!!!!! Homes...car...gas...are cheap there. Save up your expat pay and you can well afford it. Anyway the Alfas are still Italian. Yup I am in SGP.
Patro : - Yup , Fariqe. He's God knows where now , maybe in Japan/China racing. Young man - bright future. Just needs to get a good break and he's flying. He came up the hard way , ie based on his speed , not with a 'name' or govt' money. yes , the coupe is turbo-ed. Isk :- Lionel. Not sure about the Trofeo but he's NUTS. Drives a 156 and a Fiat Coupe. Yes , singaporean. He's 'in the business'. Followed this bugger at Sepang and he's cowabunga-crazy. Can do a scandinavian flick on tarmac with a FWD car ..... alamak. As for the B road run. Anytime , when you're back. Just call. cheers!
I'd love to join in...maybe you could let me know and we'll have a big ol Italan drive! I could bring a few cool Alfas from SG - a few GTAs, etc. Yogi, well with my pay it'll be a while. I don't have 'expat' pay....but thanks for the encouragement! Pistole, I thought he was racing in the UK now? There are a few guys here that know him like Paul, with the red 75.
http://www.icefire.it/Video/ferrari.wmv you have to watch this and I swear you'll laugh yourself off your chair. !!
Yeah...funny but if Pistole's driving the Fiat and me in the 355..it could be me screaming at the blardy white Fiat and my wife asking why we're losing to a..a...a...FIAT ! My wife's a speed demon too. My fastest 'speedo reading' run of 265 thereabouts was with her..VEGLIA equals Vague-Liar..hehe! Tangkak-Yong Peng stretch of flat road after the twisties on the way to Jay Bee at 0700 in the morning. I dinna know you then Pistole and the car was 5 days old ! Breakfast at Majidee Nasi Lemak stall, lunch at UTM Skudai to see some old friends lecturing and back by 2100hrs. Ferraris can take 500 miles in a day easy although my eye was scrutineering ALL meter readings every 10 secs..tiring that.....
i've done an indicated 250 Vege-Liar ... and all I could think about was my tyres popping or the bonnet coming up ..... lmao !
The fastest I've done is 240 as I just said somewhere else. I get scared by the big durian trucks with super weak tail lights. You think you're like 500 m away when you're only 50 m away!! By then it's almost too late! Anyone ever have that happen in Malaysia?
there is some singapore registered F-car which was trapped between a trailer/lorry and the armco barrier , during a trip on the NS Highway.
That happened 2 or 3 years ago in a red 355. Owner and pax got out alright. What was even more amazing was the car got fixed. It could be zooming around in NZ or down under
I get scared when driving behind quarry lorries and for religious reasons...a pig-to abattoir transport trucks ! Even though I hate to use the horns, when you drive in Malaysia or anywhere in Asia for that matter...you've to use it well and hard. Approaching at a fast clip, need to flash the vehicle in front and the requisite short parps even though the said vehicle is out of harm's way. They rarely look at their side mirrors and for lorries especially, turn the headlights on for visibility on fast interstates like the NKVE. Red cars have better visibility so Pistole you'd be safer if you drive a red car.. After much thinking and trying to get the thread ontrack, the best bet for you is a 328GTB, if you can find one in the States. They're pretty rare there becuz of the preference of open-top motoring (GTS) over a closed tin-top. Americans are tall blokes and that's one of the reasons too..hehe!
Yeah I concur with you about driving in MY and the dangers that there are. I prefer to go in a big long convoy - that makes it easier. I'm glad my car is red! Well once I get back to the US I'll look into it. I guess now I'm sort of just educating myself about what is out there and what to go for so that when I'm ready I'll know. Yeah we love convertibles/targas/open tops because after all the snow melts and it gets warm and sunny there's nothing like the feeling of going with the top down/off. Here the novelty is sort of always worn off since it's never cold and always a bit too hot for that. When I get back it'll be a fight between an older and less-reliable Ferrari, a middle-aged Porsche or a new Lotus. All could cost in the US $40,000 range. Of course I'd also buy an old V8 pick up or something to carry junk around in and maybe a motorcycle. But that's only like US $1-5,000. On the other hand, if they had Alfas in the US then I might go for that if they actually produce something that's AWD and at least 250-300 hp. Which leads me to Maseratis....But for now I love what I have.
