    Hello Fellow "F"-Chatters!

Hey a question: Has anyone any experience on removing the horsy, 308 & GTB/GTS badges on the rear of their car?

I'm goning to detail the badges and wax the paint on the rear, and was wondering the best way to remove them, maybe a few tricks??

If anyone has any pictures of how this looks with the carpet removed, that would be a GREAT help!

    Thanks Guys!

    Chris.

Chris, on the 328, they are adhesive, no bolts. I did the same thing last year, and it made a huge difference. If yours are adhesive also, make sure you do not wax where the new adhesive will go when you put them back on. Also, when you do put them back on, carefully measure where they will go. If they are a little crooked or not centered, it will drive you nuts.

I have removed them on my 328 as well. As mentioned, they are stuck on with double sided tape. You must be very careful, as the metal is soft and you can bend them.

Careful with the horsey on the 308's (at least the '85 models) -- they are fastened with two nuts from the inside trunk area! You have to gently pry back the carpet and insulation panel layers to access them. It's a tight area to access, but can be done with time, patience, and a small metric wrench.

Mine was missing when I bought the car, so I had to install a new one from the dealer. :(

Removal of the other adhesive badges can be facilitated with the aid of a hair-blow-dryer -- gently "heat" up the area to cause the adhesive to become more pliable. Just a suggestion -- this worked well for me while trying to remove the side-view mirror glass once.

I think Eric has it pretty well outlined. The nuts are 6mm as I recall for the horse. Assume the others were the same. By pulling back the carpet you will have access to the horse, 308 badge and model designations. Just make sure you don't twist the shafts when you take them off or they will act like a file and take the paint from the edges of the holes when you go to reinsert them.

Before going through the trouble of removing the badges try using a soft bristle tooth brush to remove the old wax. If the wax is stubborn dampen the bristles and try again. I have used this method with great success in the past.
