Yesterday I was driving my 308 QV mid day in the South Florida heat. The A/C on my car blows very cold. It worked fantastically for a 30 min drive. When I got home I left the car in the drive way idling while I moved another car to put it in the garage. It was idling for about 4-5 minutes. When I got back in the car to drive it into the garage, the A/C was blowing hot air. The oil temp and water temp were good, around 90 degrees. I turned off the A/C and back on, still hot air only. This morning, I started it up and did a quick 10 minute drive. The A/C was again blowing ice cold, no problem for the entire ride.

Does the compressor have an auto-shut off if it overheats? Anyone have anything to share on this?

My guess is your freon is just a bit low. If low, the system can build enough pressure on the high side to condense the freon to a liquid at higher rpms. You will get much better cooling when the freon goes from a liquid to a gas in in the evaporator core. At idle, lower rpm, the freon isn't getting condensed to a liquid and so the cooling is poor because you are going from a somewhat higher pressure warm gas to a lower pressure gas. Poor cooling will result. If the freon pressure is too low, there is a pressure switch that will prevent the compressor from operating.
