He probably just asked Rutlands for a used head - on the outside it appeared fine and came off a running car...

My take on Rutlands is that if they don't 'have' to do additional work to sell the part, they won't. The bulk of their labor is breaking cars down and stocking items. If they do a refurb, and some of their parts are offered as fully-rebuilt parts, you will pay FULL BOAT prices on those.

Actually, I called Rutlands wanted a rebuilt head, but they would only sell me a pair of heads rebuilt, not a single, so I was stuck with what they had used. And you are correct, the head was described as coming off a running car. This may have been true, but given the amount of carbon build up in the combustion chambers and the amount of wear to valve stems and guides, it was either very high mileage, or very neglected. In the end, in would probably been close to the same price to repair my original head, but live and learn. The hell of it is, the want my old head and cam back as a core! Also, I did try a few shops around here that build hydraulic lines for trucks and heavy equipment to build up the oil cooler lines, 2 shops to me impossible. If you have a source that can for sure build these lines, they should advertise that on line, they would clean up!

local guys at a Allen-Orten hose shop have done hoses for my Lotus Esprit Turbo, and a bunch of my 911's. they have seen some of my 308's up close and said the hoses are no big deal.

Anywhere there is aircraft service (in the area of almost any airport) there is a hose shop. We get hoses rebuilt all the time for a small fraction of new price.

Have a look at the yellow pages.

They are far better than OE too.
