Proper speedo in a 1993 308 GTSi QV Euro spec
The car was built left hand drive and spent its initial years in Europe, was shipped to the states in the late 1990s.
The speedo shows MPH in white (larger print) 180mph max.
    would that be correct?
if so should it be recording miles or KL?
would they have been required to changed the speedo to US version when it was shipped over?

    thanks

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum! There are a bunch of owners of Euro QVs here, in fact Thomas Magnum (forum member, not PI) maintains a list of Euro QVs in the 308 section.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/433007-euro-qvs-north-america.html

Your question might be better posted in that section, there is a huge knowledge base of 308 technical maintenance, DIY links and threads in there. There have been multiple discussions about speedometers over the years - there are two general types used in 308s, and variations on number of digits on the odometers (5 and 6 were used), and variations for odometer reading in km or miles. The early and late speedometer types correspond to different sending units on the transmission.

Further complications - if your Euro QV was federalized, then it's hard to say what happened with the speedometer. Some just had the km/h faceplate replaced with a MPH faceplate, and the odometer still reads in km. Some were converted, and along with the MPH faceplate the odometer was converted.

Even more complicating - some Euro QVs were delivered in Europe with MPH speedometers and odometers reading in miles - mine is such an example. It's left hand drive, was delivered new to Jersey (one of the Channel Islands, follows UK road requirements and driving on left) - so it is essentially UK spec but LHD. I know my car was never federalized, it was imported to Canada sometime before 2000 and has no US modifications that were typical of gray market imports (side marker lights, sealed beam headlights, air injection on engine, larger bumpers, door beams, speedo and/or odometer conversions - various combinations were applied to US-imported Euro QVs)

Really, the only way to see what your odometer reads is to check it on the road against the odometer calibrating signs if you have nearby, or against a GPS (phone?) to measure distance on odometer versus comparison.

History in Europe will be nearly impossible to find, and Ferrari is of no help whatsoever - google of your car's serial number will be about the only way (use the last 5 numbers) that you might find anything. I've got the original books for my car, including the delivery page on the warranty book, but beyond that I have no history until the second Canadian owner in 2000.
