Hi guys, I finally encountered my first problem with my '85 QV. Drove it last week for abour 100 miles, came back home, back in the garage. 5 days later I fired it up, no problem, trying reving it up , and there it was. It would not rev up smoothly like before, reved it up to 3K , let go the accelerator and it died. Fired it up again, same situation, it idles smouthly but under load, it revs up rough .I changed the fuel filter, it was due, drained the fuel tanks, got fresh fuel, no difference. Back to square one. I would appreciate any advice I can get on this one. Thanks guys, regards, Ted.

I've owned the car for 5 years, ran like a dream...except for fluids, a couple other things, no major repairs. Belts are due next month..This was so sudden, like a heart attack. I'm a cardiovascular intensive care unit Registered Nurse, and most of my patients would say: "I was just sitting there and the next thing you know, I was on the floor with a lot of pain in my chest.. This is how I feel about my situation. How often should I change spark plugs? Thanks for your response, regards, Ted.

sounds like another case of bad crank sensors. There are three... one for each cylinder bank and one for the tach. they are down by the flywheel. Try checking the impedence on those an replace if needed. My car had similar symptoms and it turned out to be that.

Many more times than not things like this turn out to be spark related and not fuel in my experiences. I'm chasing down a misfire myself. It's easy enough to change the plugs and new extenders are only $129 for all eight. The accel 4040r spark plug wires are an easy install for $32 at pep boys. Unplug the digiplex boxes and clean the contacts too.

Like it's been said the crank sensors cause lots of these type of problems too.

As someone else mentioned, it could be bad crank sensors.

It also could be one bank not firing. The F V-8 will run with only one bank, but low on power and will not rev up. This could be a coil going out.

Also could be one or more extenders going and arching (therefore not firing). (this was my problem with similar symptoms that you are describing and cured by replacing all wires and extenders).

Could also be water in a plug hole causing a misfire/ground, did you happen to just have washed the car?

Just guessing to try to help you trouble shoot.

Hi James, I did wash the car recently but I drove the car afterwards without any problems. Tomorrow I'll start checking all the different possibilities you guys have mentioned, starting with new wires and plugs.I'll keep you all posted. Thanks guys.

Hm, car wash, bad running. Someone here tried to deny this once, and finally had to accept that it is related.

Check out all the connectors for water.

Someone recently reported finding water in the digiplex connections and that that was the cause of their misfire.
