Hi all, Has anyone experienced the car not idling (and therefore dying)? It ran OK today, but after a short highway trip, now refuses to idle - I shall try it tomorrow when cold, to see if it's just when hot, but I thought there might be a common problem/fix, before I go poking around with a screwdriver and a bad attitude. Cheers Patrick
Possible vac leak, or the throttle switch connector may have come off. CIS is pretty reliable, but when it does go wrong, you have to check everything, one piece at a time.
It could be a mechanical adjustement as well, rather than a gas / air mixture issue. My QV was doing the same a few weeks ago after a service, but not when cold. I eventually got tired of jumping on the accelerator when coasting to the traffic lights, to prevent it dying, and adjusted the screw on the rear of the plenum cover. Not the big shiny metal screw that adjusts the mixture, but the little screw surrounded by a black plastic guard, that physically prevents the throttle from closing all the way.
When the car is hot, adjust the screw down, ie holding the throttle open more, and then gradually back off on the screw until it can still hold the idle. While you are at it, you may want to aadjust the acceleartor cable as well as this may have developed some slack. I think this is adjusted by accessing the panel under the pedal box from underneath the car
Thanks, everyone I adjusted the idle screw, in the end. I still can't explain why it happened so suddenly. Incidentally, I couldn't find a screwdriver, so used the one in the tool roll! It looks like I have only 1 or 2 missing tools in there - does anyone know what it should contain? Patrick
