I've been looking at pictures of different QV's now and one thing that I seem to notice is that the front windshield frame on some of the red cars, is either painted black or is color matched to the car. My first question is why the difference. Is it an option or something?

I know that the euros have body colored vents where the us versions have matte black vents; which is one way to tell the two apart, but I don't know about this windshield frame.

The second question is that I see shields on some cars right near the rear upper portion of the front fenders. Are these magnetic or are they actually attached to the car. Is this also an option?

    Thanks in advance.

Sean, my understanding is that the windshield frame was painted black on only the 1983 QV GTS (and all non-QV 308's as well). It was changed to be painted body color on the 84-85 GTS. I believe that was standard from the factory and not an option. Not certain, but I believe that the Euros were the same as the US Spec QV's in this regard. For GTB's, the windshield frame was body color in all the QV years (83-85).

My understanding regarding the fender shields is that they were added by owners after the fact. I don't believe it was ever an option on the 308 from the factory, as fender shields were originally reserved for Ferrari's race cars and special edition supercars like the 288 GTO and F-40. Some are magnetic and others are high quality enamel.

Check out Keith Bluemel's book Original Ferrari V8. It is full of info like this. Really good stuff!

308s were not offered with the shield from the factory.
