A friend brought me his 1984 308 QV to remedy. The original catalyst has broken after after 38 years of great service and I'm looking to rebuild the unit by creating a custom section of exhaust. To those familiar with the '84-85 QV (single Catalyst).

    1. The Exhaust OD is about 70mm (~2.75" exhaust pipe) which is easy enough.
    2. The flanges are 3 bolt flange style type with donut fittings. Does anyone know where I can buy these exhaust flanges and new spring-style bolts?
    3. I'll also need new Donut fittings. Anyone have a good source?

Ideally I'm remaking the piece in '304 Stainless.

Try Ricambi, T. Rutlands, or GT Car Parts and for the flange you may try your local muffler shops.

The flange is uniquely Ferrari, not going to find it at a local shop. In the past I've just had new ones water jet cut. Or just salvage from old parts.

The one issue you're going to run into is that what you're trying to do is considered illegal in CA. We're not allowed to gut and repack cats. Do all smog places check? Not really but the state has been cracking down hard and if it's noticed that it's not oem or has been tampered with... The state will make the owners life a miserable hellscape.

It's a pickle and the state knows it, they want cars off the road. Heck they've started deploying patrol units to monitor exhaust noise on older smog exempt vehicles, nail them with altered exhaust systems, then one has to jump thru state inspections and pay fines.

Options are to find oem cats, or if they exist CARB approved replacement. Then get flanges made or see if superformance in the UK has them.

CA tracks cat replacement serial numbers, that's how they know. They also monitor test results and the system expects degradation over time, then when you fix/replace components the system is alerted due to the improved test results and that triggers star testing to make sure one is following all the rules.

This is why we don't build engines for CA vehicles unless it's off-road racing and some parts we're not allowed to sell in the state!

CARB compliant cats are available pretty easily. The only trouble I had was getting a muffler shop to actually read and understand the rules and install them.

I have houses in multiple states, so it needs to pass smog in AZ or CA (doesn't need to be both just where the car primarily resides).

Ok, but your opening post made it sound like a friend's vehicle...
    Sorta confusing...

Bear in mind... CA will always get it's pound of flesh.

Hopefully it's not too much of a headache to sort.

Friend has houses in AZ/CA/VA too. I wasn't really asking for Catalyst and multi-state emissions regulations. I'm sure there's an EmissionsChat for that topic.

Does anyone have a helpful response which answers one of the following questions.
    (a) Are these flanges available (this can be responded to either with a yes or a no)
    (b) If these flanges are available, where can one buy them (this can be responded to with the name of a vendor where I can buy these).

    Any help still appreciated.
