Finally after many months I have finished the video of my 308 at an Historic race meeting here in Australia in April. For the record, Film and TV is what I do and consequently this just couldn't be the normal wobbly cam of a car starting up or driving by. There are too many lame video's on Youtube and I wanted to make sure that this wasn't going to be one of them. Hopefully! The track is called Mount Panorama located about three hours out of Sydney. Maybe those of you out of Australia may not of heard of it, but it is one of "The" tracks of the world. Here is a link to the track itself; http://www.mount-panorama.com/home This is a big meeting with around five hundred entrants, mostly historic motor racing. The category I run in is called Sc. Sports cars between 1972 and 1978. Sadly I'm the only Ferrari in a grid of 55 cars and indeed the only Ferrari at the whole meeting. Typically racing against, Porsche's, Alfa's, Datsuns, Triumph's and Healey's etc. So, it's not Formula One, it's not The World Rally Championship but it is guys like us doing what we want to do. There are others more competitive than me, but my aim is to bring the car home unscathed, and thats what I did. Sadly I didn't get the greatest start as when I pulled up to the grid spot only then did I notice I couldn't see the starter past the car in front of me and the crest of the hill. So I had to wait to see and hear what the other cars were doing to guide me when to start. Bloody hell! Nevertheless it's all a bit of fun. So I shot some footage at the front for a montage that I hope you will appreciate, gave it some graphic work, a colour grade, a sound mix and general polishing. Yes it has a soundtrack (song) at the start, but then it is pure 308 induction and exhaust note. No rock and roll when you just want to hear the engine. So, whichever way you view it, make sure you view it full screen as the quality is very good, and make sure you wind up the sound right from the start! Now, where to find it? Youtube, it is in two parts as Youtube will only take a 10 minute maximum. It is best to allow your computer to fully load up the clip before playing to make sure it plays smoothly. Part-1 is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCEchZUiuno Part-2 is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCEX8yLCGKw&feature=related Make sure you also view Part-2 as I have laid up some onscreen graphics which are pretty nifty. I have uploaded the full 23 minute version as one piece on Vimeo. It is here; http://www.vimeo.com/5857476 For the moment this clip on Vimeo doesn't playback very smoothly and the Vimeo guys are looking into it for me, hopefully that will be resolved in a few days. What you can do though is go to the bottom right hand corner of that Vimeo screen for the clip and download the Hi-res file that I uploaded. I know that this file is fine, so then you could have a full res 23 minute version if you wanted. If that isn't enough for you I have also made a version for your I-Phone. It looks great on the I-Phone screen. You can download it here; http://files.me.com/stevedunn/sicqw7.mov Copy it into your movie folder in I-Tunes, sync your I-Phone and select to sync this new movie and there you have it! I hope all these links work correctly and please let me know what you think of it either by adding a comment either here or on Youtube/Vimeo. Steve
Corsa308, Really nice video and race - that must have been great fun How much racepreparation have you done to your car ? All the best MO
That is by far the best track video footage I have seen. Excellent clarity and great camera angles. The track looks pretty unforgiving if you make a mistake.
Great job, Steve! Beautifully shot and edited... how many cameras do you have on the car? Looks like five or six... or did you go back and reconfigure for some of the cutaways? Always looked forward to seeing the Bathurst 1000 and Supercars and the Australian Touring Car series on SPEED a few years back... what a great track! Nice driving too... those GTV-6's have a slight handling edge but the 308 has longer legs. Looking forward to seeing more... Best, Tom
very well done I like it alot, what cameras did you use and what mounts, Im interested to know cause it has to be pretty small to fit in that footwell. -Josh
outstanding vid!!! bathurst looks like a wicked track with the steep elevation changes. nice bit of driving I might add, the 308 must be a handful going down hill in the twisty the warrant a little more care than the other cars? those alfetta's look pretty quick and nimble up on the hill through the twisty. I wonder how extensive are the motors with the 2 liter nords...160-190hp? fortunately you still where able to get by a few of them on the uphill straights btw you cars looks exquisite, almost too nice to swap paint. the sound is intoxicating also. It looks like a street car still how light where you able to get the car down too? thanks for posting hf
great footage, and as said a pretty unforgiven track. The size of your balls must be considderable Thanx a lot for sharing this, really enjoyed watching it.
Oops... those are 2L Alfettas, not the later 2.5L GTV-6. I'm sure you can get a good 180-190 hp out of a 2L race prepped Alfa twin cam. Best, Tom Interesting class mix... TR-6, AH-3000, Datsun 2x0's, Alfa GTV, Morgan(?), Escort(?), Porsche...
That was really nice. The video angles reminded me of the movie "LeMans". 70's vintage cars are cool. The track looks very technical with incredible elevation changes, but has no room for run off areas!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting!!
Steve, great footage and a nice drive! What a fabulous course. Alas, I've only driven it synthetically... The Alfetta's are well driven. The yellow Datsun on the other hand...
Great footage! As a kid growing up in Oz in the early 70's I have great memories of Bathurst - Moffat,Brock,Falcons,Toranas etc. What a track! As a fellow 308 racer I salute your commitment through the concrete walls.
Wow! You are really a professional filmer. I watched inboard cam track videos before and am always bored after 1 minute, even the ones i made myself in my own car! But this I had to watch all to the end. Gee, I really want an Alfetta GTV now, those are so classy cars, they do great when converted for track use but a good original one is still a class car today, you can park in front of a good restaurant or whatever, it still is a class car that says the owner is a guy with good taste.
Watched the full version on the vimeo: youtube told me that there were copyright problems. Great drive, beautiful footage. As much as you must respect the Alfetta's, even more respect is due to the lack of run-off and the proximity of walls! Yikes!
Fantastic footage from Aussie,s best track. Some observations:I didn,t think TR6s were supposed to handle???,the white/red 240 had some serious mumbo, the GTVs are something to reckon with and finally, does "come on baby" mean the same as Giddyup
Just a note to all those overseas folk commenting on the concrete, there used not to be the walls..... if you went off at 120mph you had to pick the tree you were going to hit.
classy car but wholly unappreciated in the usa... so sad that people junk em or throw them away here. the chassis is well balance once you dial the out understeer of the stock set up. its a formible track weapon with a juiced up nord 4's and evermore so with the 6's. many are now shoehorning in much bigger motor than the 2.5's of the gtv6. i always thought the chassis had much more potential than my 105 alfa. but as much as i liked my alfetta gtv i prefer tinker with the my old school 105 gtv. cheers hf
Finally a great vid with a 308 as the star! Well shot, great angles and looooove the noise. Bathurst is a beast to tame, if any of the overseas Tifosi from this forum comes here when the great race is on they will be in for a treat, better still go there during the week and drive it. The Ferrari Can AM 350 (330P4 Chassis 0858) did 291KPH down Conrod straight in 1968!!!!! With Bill Brown at the wheel, lap time was 2min19.6sec carrying his own spare wheel! That speed stood for 12years. Congrats on some great work. This will become one of the classics. Cheers MG
