I am searching for some race (track day ) wheel for my 308. I do not want to go get another set of 16" wheels and dont want to have anything expensive made for it.

    1) the bolt pattern is fairly common ( 5x108 ) used by lots of Ford, old Audi, etc. The problem is the OFFSET.

    2) with all the wheels flooding the market today and the cost getting really atractive---one would think---that one could find a set of production wheels that would cross over OK.

    3) The difficulty is the OFFSET because nobody published the offests when they market the wheels!!!!!!!!! AND all the *&$%^%* tire/wheel websites only match the wheels using the car make--which NEVER have Ferraris.. ( PS--I sent a note to Tirerack asking them to add 16" specs to their database).

HELP NEEDED----- I have some CAD drawings of my 16" wheels ( factory origionals) and will post them here. Anyone that has any info on crossovers please post it. Anyone with Suggestions, please post.... I really want to get some 17" rims for this application

I searched high and low a couple years ago but found nothing. If you call tirerack, they are happy to give you offsets on any wheels they sell. When I talked to them they had the 308 info in there database but none fit.

What I did was have a set of hubcentric adapters make to 114x5 (...it's been a while maybe it was 115x5) and 1" thick. Almost every wheel comes in 114 (or 115) with a 45mm offset which becomes 20mm with the adapter in there. That lets you fit a 9" wheel in back if you have aftermarcket shocks. At 1" thick the adapters are plenty strong and don't add much weight.

Another option is just watch ebay for a set of 348/355/360 wheels. They turn up at a good price from time to time. I paid less than $1000 for the 550 wheels I have on my car including shipping.

The last option is to buy BMW wheels (others might work too). They have a 20mm offset which will work fine...but the bolt pattern is wrong, I think it's 120x5. Most wheels have plenty of meat to let you drill a second set of holes in the 108x5 pattern. A lot of the low end aftermarcket wheels come with 2 bolt patterns to fit several applications, so it is common practice.

    Go to tirerack.com

Search for a 97 Ford Tunderbird Sport

Refine to 17 inch wheels and there you have your options.

There you have a number of wheels to choose from. Note that their weights are included often times.

Choose wheel you want, get note it's offset. Contact Hill Engineering and ask for the custom spacers that you need.

The only problem with Volvo and T-bird wheels is they all come in narrow sizes like 7"
    I need 8" and 9"
16" or 17" wheels will work but going up to larger maked it impossible to get rubber.

Atlantaman , why not go with the Compmotive wheels, they have the 288 gto style wheels for $1700 for a set of 4 , made for the Ferrari. 7" front, 8" rear. i want a set BAD!! www.usacomp.com they have other styles that may be cheaper, since i want those for looks and you only need a set for the track. perhaps they have some lite weight wheels. they were VERY helpful on the phone and mentioned they do custom applications all the time for ferrari / lambo owners.

For the track use what the track guys use...OEM Ferrari/speedline 348/55 challenge wheels. More pricey yes but they are really good and will NOT fail. I have this great picture of someone who raced OEM thin spoke Corvette Z06 wheels on his vette and the centers blew out in a crash! A wheel should never grenade like that. It is your life at 150mph do what you can to take control. Don't buy a cheap wheel. One last most importing thing is that the 18" size allows the most choice with real race slicks if you ever get that far. You can't get that in the 16/17" size wheel

Please notice the title of the thread---RACE use only--
    and about 800/ set max.
No need to get as nice set of rims that are only going to get banged up in the trailer and scratched to hell when changing tires after every track event.

If you're willing to up the ante a bit (to maybe $1,200 or so), Compomotive will make you a set of wheels for a 308 to whatever size you specify. See attached shot of my old GT4 with 7.5"X17" wheels, made to order.

Charles- The folks at Compomotive are easy to deal with, and will make up whatever size you like. Rears in 9" width will surely cost a bit more, but they'll still be cheaper than many other alternatives. Just give them the bolt pattern, offset, diameter and width and they'll give you a quote- what can you lose?

You even did the same tires as me - Goodyear F1's. Great choice.

Speaking of offset, look at the pictures from fastaone and the same wheels in my profile. Look at the rears on his car and the amount of dish or depth. On my 1989, there is a lot less dish or depth to the wheel. ie, the mounting surface is closer to the outside (offset). Compomotive knows what offset to use for your year. Give them a call. Questions are free for them.

BBS is the best rout so far--remember these are ONLY track rims with slicks mounted. They are going to get beat to death bouncing around in my car trailer. no need to spend $$$$ on these and just see them get banged up
