What sealing strips should be under the bonnet of a carb'd 308? I have no foam sealing strips on the underside of the front hood. Should something be there? I just got the car before winter and I really have only driven it around the block when it was October in Chicago. Not a good test of high temperature behavior!

I changed the rad out of my '77 with a larger racing unit but yes there is foam across the top mounted on the lid. Do a search on 308 rads, I'm sure I've seen pics in here. Or try searching on one of the restoration threads. Good luck!

The foam strip on top of the radiator appears in both the euro and US version SPC for carb 308B/S -- item 24 (here in the euro SPC):

    https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v6-v8/308-group/308gtb-gts/front-compartment-lid.html

and item #20 looks "foamish" too to me (in the later euro and US 308B/S SPCs). What year/version/model 308? You need to update your Profile...

Interestingly, it seems they inadvertently left the "24" label off the figure in the US 161/78 SPC -- the foam strip is in the picture, and 24 appears as an entry in the corresponding parts list, but no "24" label in the figure itself -- oops ;)

There should be two pieces of foam rubber on the underside of the front hood. One on top of the radiator and a piece of foam rubber is further back and glued to the underside of the hood and rests on top of the spare tire carrier, this helps keep some of the hot air from the front compartment from going through the fire wall and into the cabin, which makes it hot.

Around the radiator there should be foam rubber on all four sides of the radiator. As previously mentioned, a large foam rubber piece is glued under the hood and rests on top of the radiator when the hood is closed. There are foam pieces on each side of the radiator and a piece of foam under the bottom of the radiator that rests against the bottom of the radiator and the front valence. These four pieces make a BIG difference to keep the air from going through the radiator, as opposed to around it.
