My older 1976 -77 dashes are a little different ( from these pictures) and the frame goes into the existing recess pretty nicely! Thinking of it, I don't recall seeing the detachable face lately ( car in shop), I might be ^&*(^^&ed anyway...

I planned to make a block off plate for my 308. Is there stitching around the perimeter? I thought it was just a vinyl wrapped piece of aluminum. Anyone have a better pic or just more pics so i can have a better look? Thanks
yes there is stitching all the way around. my stitching is loose along the bottom. i will take some pics this weekend, its pouring down rain right now from Hanna just off the coast.
here are some pics. dimensions are as follows: 7.400 inches long x 2.95 inches tall (*) upper left corner is contoured to fit into the corner shape dictated by the dash shape. upper right corner it has a 90 degree edge. typical of hand made cars, there is no gap between the left side of the plate and the dash, whereas the right side of the plate and the dash have a .250 gap, though you dont see it without looking for its shape relative to the contour of the dash. (*) the face measures 2.95 from bottom flat edge to top. there is a .400 edge fillet where the metal has been folded back to fit the contour of the dash. so if flat the piece would be 3.150 x 7.400. then you would put a .400 fold at a 45 degree bend radius. i would do something for fun in CATIA V5, but i have been at work, and playing with the Ferrari all day. Isn't the stitching that you are seeing part of the stereo surround and not the cover plate? I've been meaning to make one up since I left the stereo out of mine. I though the cover plate was just a plate with a couple studs shot on the back and wrapped in vinyl. Of course I'm going off pictures and you're looking at in real life!!
I found the picture I mentioned earlier. It does not show the vents very well and the radio under the vents is a bit odd. But if you were not going to have a radio it seems to me like putting the A/C vent in that space would look better than a blank. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thats a neat idea except it means you cut the dash structure out to fit the vents. It does look factory though.
