OK, I thought my rear hub bearing was bad. Once I took everything apart I found my locknut was locked but, not even finger tight. I think since it was loose the axle was loose it worn down. I am trying to find someone to ARC spray it then remachine it. Sound OK to you guys. Yes, I will still replace the bearing since it is all apart. One of my CV boots was ripped and shot grease everywhere. What a mess. I remove the shaft from the car. How do I get the ends off the shaft to slip a new boot on? Is there a source where I can buy just 1 or 2 boots? The other one looks fine but, I have it apart so... I thought I might through another on there. Do I need a special tool to remove these ends? Does anyone have a picture of one if there is one? Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated. Once again, Happy Holidays all!

The CV joints are held on by a clip on the end of the axle. The joints and boots are the same as a Porsche 930 (turbo 911) and are widely available. Clean and repack your joints while your in there. Lots of info and photos in the archives.

Can't remember who to credit for these shots, but if you remove the snap-ring (a.k.a. "clip" per Mike's post) on the end, the entire CV joint comes off the half-shaft splined end as a unit (which allows you to get the small end of the new boot onto the shaft). Do a search on "Lobro" (the CV joint vendor) for more information.

I was quoted a price of 50 bucks for one boot at the local auto parts store - did a bit more checking and found All Ferrari Parts bought a kit with 4 boots, 8 bands and 4 tubes of the good grease for $55. good people.
