Can anyone please tell me what a 308 2V engine would cost to rebuild/refresh and price approx. in parts? Also I know this has been asked before but what could be done to increase power without breaking the bank? Stock carb 308gt4.(Yeah, I know thats a funny to say ferrari engine rebuild and not break the bank in the same sentence) thanks in advance

all new bearings, new vlaves, guides, piston rings, belts--etc

I just was in this position and calculated about 3000 in parts and about 1500 in labor for things that i could not do myself (valve job, block building) but I would do the actual assembly of the motor--removal and reinstall.. total cost 4500.00

The more I looked into it I decided to do a trade in for fresh rebuilt motor at TRutlands and save a lot of time--I took my motor in and took out a fresh rebuild that was ready to install---cost a bit more but saved a LOT of time and a Lot of headaches........your call... If you choose to go this route email me and let me know.

Yelcab, unless you know where to get the timing belt tensioner bearings cheap! :) BTW, baby is in the paint booth as I type this---just finished being block sanded. New paint and reassembly of body starting next week, should have baby back soon after that.

With a rebuilable core you can get one off the net for $7,500.00! Check other threads as it has been mentioned before. Was it TRutlands? They have an add in the F-car newsletter too!

    T. Rutlands= 7500.00. I read on this site that their rebuilder is highly regarded.

I would hate to have someone do the machine work on my F-engine that doesn't know them well. Yeah yeah I know, an engine is an engine but some have idiosyncrosies not readily apparent.

Just a note regarding rebuilding a 308 engine:

If you can find FORZA magazine Numbers 43, February 2003, and 44, April 2003 you may find useful information regarding what a comprehensive rebuild entails.

The rebuild is carried out by a reputable shop that has a great deal of experience with Ferrari. The articles offer some suggestions as to how to increase the performance and dependability of the engine.

You may also find some useful information included in "Ferrari Guide to Performance" by Allen S. Bishop.

Although, most of the information in the book leans toward other models, there are sections that apply to the V8. One section suggests some methods of increasing power.

40 chargeable hours to do a complete and comprehensive rebuild on a 308 may come a bit shy of the final charges.

If your engine is in need of a rebuild due to wear or just age be prepared for the "do ya wannas?" If the rebuild is carried out by a competent shop, there will be a number of things found that might be done with the engine out. The transaxle can be inspected and deficencies repaired at the same time for the same "pull out" charge. "Do ya wanna" go ahead with a transaxle inspection and repair? There may be a substantial listing of "do ya wannas" on a vehicle with a weak service history. Things wear out.

The articles in FORZA magazine even makes mention of these repairs and gives and explanation as to why some things should be done at the same time as the engine rebuild.

    Best wishes
