I stopped by FerrParts today to pick up some mirrors and looked around for other interesting tidbits. I came across the back end of a 308 they had cut in half when somebody needed a front clip. All too often we just go blindly when working with the rocker channels and the hoses that pass through them. I couldn't pass up taking a couple of pictures as I know some day, someone is going to need a better understanding of this area. Its rare we get to see this aspect of our cars. Pictures taken looking at the back of the car from the front. Top pic has the A/C hoses, bottom has heater and Brake Vac hoses. Enjoy.

    Hey,
My buddy needs a driver's side rocker panel for his 328! Will this work? Was it a complete rocker assemble or cut in the middle?
    Thanks,
    etip

Nice pics, its a GTS rocker, the hoses are routed differently in a GTB and the rocker is completely different inside.

With as much room as the pictures show, the my GTB hoses wouldn't have put up such a fight.

Like all convertibles the GTS, requires additional bracing to stiffen the body which adds some 100# or so. Hard to imagine 50 pounds of sheet metal on each side but the pictures reveal it all. Thanks for posting those pictures...helps in understanding an area of the car one never personally visits.

This particular car was cut in the middle. They do have a QV with intact rockers (hammered in front). I don't know if the rockers would match a 328 or not. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in here.

Paul, that makes sense, but I hadn't thought about it. Yep, it was a GTS. How does the structure differ? Can you elaborate or draw a picture. Just curious.

I'll be going by FerrParts regularly so I'll keep my eyes open for a GTB sawn in half. The last GTB I saw there was an intact EMPTY shell but was very straight. I heard it went out intact.

    Interesting pics, thanks.

it's a bit sobering of a reminder to see this, as any odd circumstance could turn a cherished auto into a parts source for the breaker with his diamond saw.

The two top boxed sections are not on a GTB rocker. The "step-over" to get into a GTS reminds me of a C4 vette whereas the GTB rocker is no higher than the pinchweld that the door seal attaches to.

Thanks Paul. Come to think of it, there are other variations as well. I have a 1980 and it does not have the outer of the two top boxed sections (half a house shape). After the carpet is glued down there is a stainless piece that rivets to the pinch weld and eats up the transition to the large box. I'll keep my eyes open and get more pics as the opportunity presents.

So which channel do the hoses run through on a GTB?

Interesting ... this might explain why some guys think the GTS cars are so flimsy ... mine are 81/82 vintage and I do not have issues with body flex like a lot of guys complain about when just going for ice cream ;) ... assuming my cars have the extra cross section in there ... cool pic.

    cheers

The ribbed diagonal sheet metal piece is also not there on the GTB so the hoses run beside the rail. The inner GTB rocker has several body plugs along it under the carpet, with them removed you can see the hoses.
