The rubber trim around the side windows & quarterlights of my car is in a fairly poor state. 1. Any ideas if replacing this is a black art or could a competent, patient and manly individual (i.e. me) get the job done? I would be lining this up as a task for the long winter evenings so I would be able to take my time. 2. Availability of trim; sometime back I spoke to Maranellos who said that the factory only produced replacement rubber for cars that were less than 10 years old. They did offer to attempt to match up my rubber with items that they had in stock but it would be a bit hit & miss. These cars get restored so this rubber must come from somewhere. I did find the whole lot here: http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/308Rubber.htm but ideally I would prefer to deal with someone in the UK.
Andy I'll forward you the details of my supplier when I get into the office tomorrow morning As for how easy it is...take your time and you can do anyting you need to on a 308!
Bank Holiday Monday? - there really is no peace for the wicked That'll teach you for making remarks about our French chums - that did cause a total sense of humour failure with certain individuals. The humour divide between here & the states was then confirmed by stevef's thread 'Schumi is a cheat' - easy pickings... Thanks.
I have replaced mine, as well...easy! We are lucky to have a vendor in Houston, TX USA, that oddly, deals with Italy.....anyway, if FerrariUK Classic parts cannot help out, give a shout........ The ones around the outer glass frame that seal to the body or the ones that overlap at the rear of the door? They even have the fuzzy stuff that lines the window glass at the top of the door, but THATS a real pain...you have to take the window out to rivet it in properly..... Fuzzy stuff...I guess that's a technical term..... Reoriginals does offer a catalog that lets you see all the rubber profiles.....
Whew, you DID stir those guys up........LOL! I watched that whole deal, and was hard presed to figure Schumi out, he DID lock the innner wheel up but only momentarily...... I've had to start at the rear of the field like that, it's a long day at the office!
You should double check this with Classic Parts - I'm absolutely sure that the rubber around the roof & screen & doors for 308/328GTS is/was available new within the last couple of years from them (during Jeff Howe's reign)
Thanks chaps. I believe that 'fuzzy stuff' is the technical term for Weather Strip - I actually have this already (admittedly purchased in error, thought I was buying item #1 below...) The main items that I need to replace are 1) the external rubber where the base of the glass meets the bodywork - this runs from below the front quarter light along the base of the retractable window. 2) the rubber that sits in the door frame (around the sides and the top) and acts as a guide as the glass glides upwards to close 3) whilst I am at it I see no point in not replacing the rubber that goes around the quarter light and the rear side windows. Jimmie - perhaps Maranellos have now identified what rubber is compatible with older cars and can now supply using part numbers - when I spoke to them they needed samples so that they could match up against their stock. I didn't want to pull my car to pieces to provide samples, only to find that the rubber was unobtainable! Thanks for the encouragement Big Tex, I envisaged that it would not be an impossible task but you never know with these cars. Glad that you could see the funny side of some of the recent MS threads - the British sense of humour is lost on so many of your countrymen. They bite so easily
