I have a problem...one of the mounting nuts under the floor "spun" and the other disappeared...crap! Both are the fronts. I was thinking of getting longer allen bolts, body washers and mounting them from below the belly pan. Any suggestions on what the "right way" to fix this is? They are literally buried in the floor.
If you do use a longer bolt thru the floor I would suggest using stainless bolts, washers and nuts. You will be able to remove them later with little trouble. Howard tr0768
A good solution would be to use Atlas Rivet Nuts. I've used these a lot. Look at the demo, you can make your own installation tool. This place has a good selection in metric sizes. -Steve http://www.enfasco.com/frame4.htm
The nuts are set in a metal strap that runs across the floor under the fiberglass floorpan. To access them, either remove the aluminum belly pan (PITA), or drill 1" holes or larger, in the belly to get access, then plug them up with rubber plugs when you are done mounting the seats with new hardware.
I have already drilled the 1" holes and will mount the seats this week. Looks to be the best solution at this time. Makes for fairly easy access to the brackets. Now I need to source the plugs
Try The Roadster Factory. They have all sorts of plugs for British cars. Mine have lasted for over a decade now in the floor pan of the 6. http://www.the-roadster-factory.com/
Yup, did that with my 308 when I first got it. The car had a horrible set of Sparco red racing seats installed, but fortunately I got the originals along with the car. Had the seats redone and went to install them, and one of the bolts was stripped, spinning. Paul (PAD) and I cut the hole in the underbelly pan, replaced the bolt and that was that. I have not been able to find a rubber plug to fix the hole. Was thinking of pop-riveting a piece of aluminum sheet metal over the opening, or just holding it in place with some small sheet metal screws.
