Have recently been offered a 76 308 GTB (glassfibre carb model) & have read elsewhere that oil servicing intervals are every 3k? Q. Does this mean the major/cam belt change is at 9k.. or is it 18k like modern Ferraris? Q. Is the oil service just a simple oil service eg. oil, oil filter & air filter, or is there more to it than that? The reason I ask is that I would plan to actually do some mileage in her and a trip to the local Ferrari specialist every 3k will be tedious & costly. Q. Is there any reason why my local grease-monkey couldn't do the oil services and just visit the specialist for the major with belts? Afterall surely these are pretty uncomplicated cars by modern standards so I would have thought that any competent mechanic can take care of jobs that don't require specialist tooling? Q. If any mechanically minded types know the schedule/ number of hours labour required for an oil service on a 308 then this would also be handy to know? Thanks for any input?
I change my oil in the euro 308 GTS at the end of the summer (about 2500 miles) to get it ready for storage. I take my synthetic oil and baldwin filter to the local grease monkey, they charge me $10 to use their facilities. the guy down below removes the oil plug, we let it drain for 30 minutes while i replace oil filter, then the guy replaces plug, i refill it with the oil, check the level and drive off. $20 for the filter, and about $65 in synth oil - valvoline for me - 5w/50.......
30k every 2.5k or 3k miles. Brake fluid once a year. Coolant once a year No reason what so ever. 30 minutes for oil. Add 1 hour for brakes and 1 hour for coolant
Agree with advise above - here's a copy from the handbook with it's recommendations Sorry about the quality of the pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Malcolm - does the above mean you are also happy with a 30 k belt change not 9 k and how is that affected by time ? Originally Posted by Conquisitor Q. Does this mean the major/cam belt change is at 9k.. or is it 18k like modern Ferraris? matteo 30k Ferrari_UK_Tech Agree with advise above
There has been lenghty discussions on the forum regarding when and at what time the belts should be changed. You have two choices, either follow the factory recommendations or change the belts when you want to - it's a personal thing and it's up to the owner. Belts do deteriate with time, not to mention the odd oil leak from the cam seals contaminating them, another reason for changing the belts on a "regular" basis is that the tensioner bearings can be inspected.
peters In the time it has taken me to warm to the idea I'm told that a sale has been agreed on the car.. but I was a bit slow on this one as the dealer had had it for a couple of weeks before I got around to enquiring. The car was 76 308 GTB carb/glassfibre Black with tan leather, speedlines, deep front air dam, FSH, 52,000 miles. At a dealer for £23,999 GBP. .. & thanks to all for the advice.. ..having reviewed the copies of the schedule (got my magnifying class out!) 308 seems like a fairly easy runner.. for a Ferrari.
Nicely dodged (!) ;-) The answer is the Ferrari recommended belt interval on 308/328 & Mondial 3.2 is around 28,000 miles OR a specified time interval which seems to be 2 years if you are in Europe but 5 years if you are in the USA. Same cars, same belts, basically the same engines & some good old italian logic thrown in for good measure. I.
