308 shift shaft boot install

Does anyone recall which location is correct for placement of the smaller lip of the dust boot onto the shaft ---- Please refer to the attached schematic ---- location A (over the shoulder) or B (behind the shoulder) as indicated?

My old boot was too disintegrated to use as a reference, as it had no lip! The lip will fit in either location (A or B) on the shaft, but I assume it is meant to be only in one location over the other?
