What is the shift shaft seal on a 308? Is it difficult to replace? I have a SLIGHT leak and was told by a Ferrari mechanic I trust that this was the source. any input? Thanks.

Your gear lever is connected to a long shaft (actually it is a few pieces) that goes from the middle of the car to the gearbox. Between getting to the engine and ending at the gearbox, this shaft passes through the oil sump. There are 2 shift shaft seals and they are nothing more than o-rings. One seals where the shift shaft enters the sump and the other seals between the sump and gearbox. There are TONS of threads on these seals and the procedure for replacing them. A search will bring them up for you.

Mine went on my 328 about 6 weeks ago. My tech told me that it is very common on these cars. $600.00 to replace. You also have to change the oil to do the job. My guy actually saved my oil and re-used it since he changed it the week before.
