Has anyone driven any acc. off the smog pump pulley ie alt. etc? Or does that put too much load on the camshaft or TB?

One could argue that it isn't even safe to drive the air (smog) pump off the camshaft ;)

I didn't mean to stifle the discussion, but it is a risk (as you already know). Can you give a little background/info on your thoughts? Why would you want/need to drive an alternator there? Special project (e.g., supercharger)?

No simply easy accessibility for maybe an aftermarket alt. On our race jags we mount our alternators where the ac or smog pump used to be, just for ease of maintenance. But they are driven off the crank. Only thing i would consider driving off the rear of the cam would possibly be a small cavitation pump for the engine's crankcase ventilation system. But then again i wouldn't really do this to a wet sump motor.
