I'm spring cleaning my car and have a few problems /questions I'd appreciate help on: inside rear vision mirror - is clouded inside; any way to open it? bulldust in oil pressure and water temp gauges - any way to get these out without pulling the whole dash out? 308 badge - any ideas on restoring the black nickle finish Thanks in advance.
Karen - Spring cleaning?!? (wink wink) There is a way to clean the inside of the mirror. See if you can hunt down Barry Wolinsky (http://ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=84). He has done this on his. -Daniel
Mirror is easy.. simply comes apart, clean the clear glass, and maybe replace the mirror section if corroded as is common. Easy job. Instrument pod comes out in 20 minutes or less. Screws are behing the little lamps in the corners. Then it gets harder, as gauge chrome Bezels are crimped on, but do come off with EXTREME care for cleaning of glass etc. Badges are harder.... new is best, but Black anodising of the alluimium, and then re do the white bit with paint.
Yeah! It IS spring here (I just wasn't going to rub it in for all the poor folk over there who're about to lose their cars for a few months ) Thanks for the link though!
Karen, It looks like your mate in Melbourne, Phil, knows what has to be done. The rearview mirror is easy. It can be detached from its mounting and you'll notice a pair of clips on the top and bottom of the housing frame. Carefully bend the plastic frame a bit to release it from the housing. You can then clean the glass and the front surface mirror. Reassemble by engaging the clips. The plastic might be a little brittle with all that sun exposure so go slowly. I have some minor clouding of my guages, but that can wait till I need to pull the dash to replace a bulb. Mike Charness' technique of restoring badges is typical of his many gifted talents. We're headed for Autumn here. Leaves are just begining to turn color. No matter as I drive my GTB year-round. Barry
