I posted this question on the 308 forum but haven't gotten an answer. Someone must have an idea about this -- Do all 308s use the same starter/flywheel setup? I have the engine out of my '78 GTS and am thinking of swapping the starter for a high torque gear reduction unit. If there are variations in the starter/flywheel setup, when did they occur?

    Thanks,
    Steve

As a first step, try comparing the starter assy, the ring gear, and the big aluminum part (where the starter mounts) PNs in the SPCs at the Owner's Site and/or the Eurospares Site -- might give you some clues...

The injected 308/Mondial will have a different starter assy number than the carb 308 (because the solenoid has an additional electrical connection for the fuel system control), but if the big aluminum part is the same, that would be a good sign (and as long as the vendor supplied the "injected" style solenoid, the carb user could just leave that terminal as "unused").
