I searched the archives for some info on how to do this and how much it involves. I didn't find anything.

My turn intermittently-working turn signal switch needs attention. Can anyone advise on how to go at this project and how long it will take?

Your real hassle will come in removing the steering hub. Under the horn button is a nut which requires a special tool to remove. Here are the steps:

    1. Remove the allen bolts that hold the steering wheel to the hub. DO NOT USE A HAND HELD ALLEN KEY!!!!!!! These bolts are always tight and a small hand held will definatly damage the heads then you are in it. Use an allen socket head which allows you to apply much more torque on the correct axis.

    2. Remove your horn button exposing the dreadded nut. You can make a tool using a piece of pipe and a hacksaw or you can buy or borrow one.

    3. Once the nut is out use a puller to remove the steering wheel hub. Make sure the puller has bolts that thread deep into the steering wheel fixing threads. You don't want to damage this hub.

Once the hub is out, you have full access to the steering stock to make all adjustments. With the right tools it is a less than 1 hour job. Without, it can take days.

I have rebuilt my switch, it is not easy and will probably require parts to be re cast, "Verell" on this chat is the man to have the parts cast by.

You do not need to remove the allen screws just the center nut and the whole wheel and hub comes off togeter.

The whole assembly is getting old and is very delicate be careful

Mine was making a noise so I half took it apart and greased a part that looked like it was making the noise. I was scared to go any farther, as I know the stalk is unobtainium. I would also suggest using some penetrant on the SW screws and letting them sit overnight

Just a heads up and not sure you knew this... Intermittent turn signal on a 308 COULD be from the emergency flasher switch (by the emergency brake) being dirty and NOT from the stalk switch. Have you tried spraying some Caig MCL or other contact cleaner/enhancer on the emergency flashers switch?

Just trying to save you the hassle/cost of a new turn lever.

    Stephen,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I'm that lucky, since the emergency flashers work fine when I activate the switch on the console.

Before the signals stopped working, the signal lever wold intermittently stick and could not be moved clockwise to signal a right turn, so I think the problem is caused by a mechanical failure in the column.

I spoke to a friend today who insists that the switch is a Fiat part, and is trying to find one at a foreign Ferrari dealer for me.

I'll advise if this is the case.
