I have not been able to find a post on how to replace the inner bushing on the steering rack of a 308. Most of it seems pretty strait forward but the removal of the passenger side tie rod is not clear. It looks like there is a pin that has been driven through the male and female threads of the connector to lock it in the desired position.

I am assuming I need to drill it out (size?) and then unthread it.

I have the Cam Gears rack ('79 US GTS).

I consulted with a local mechanic. The components are threaded and then locked in place with a pin. Time to break out the drill.

Carefully, but yes, drill it out. And re-pin it when you are done.

I took mine to a steering rack rebuilder and for cheap they did it all.
IIRC they used bronze bushings instead of plastic.

Just replaced my third one in the Pantera this week. Less than two hours. I did it in place and it was easy. Brass bushing.
