The wheel blocks the view of the upper gauges. I thought that there was a height adjustment, but when I looked under there, I didn't see any obvious way to do it.

Somebody please say it ain't so!

There is. I went the other way, I moved my steering wheel down so it is more comfortable to drive and doesn't have the steering wheel angle of a Mack truck. Unfortunately, it now blocks the top guages. Damn Italian design!

Anyway, pull off the little piece of dashboard trim directly under the steering column and there are a couple of bolts to loosen. (It will be obvious which ones). Once you loosen those, you will notice that the steering wheel still won't move. That is because the steering column under the dash must change length as you adjust the angle of the wheel. There is a BIG collar lock nut on the steering column, about halfway to the floor. Loosen that and it allows the steering column to "telescope" while you adjust the wheel. Once everything is set right, tighten everything. Do not forget to tighten the collar nut....leaving it loose would be bad.

The big collar nut on the steering column can be very tight. My advice is to spray some PB Blaster or similar penetrant on it the day before you tackle it. (Wrap a rag around the column when you do it so you won't get the stuff on your carpet or pedals). When you go to loosen the nut, get an assistant to hold the steering wheel. Makes it a lot easier.

    Good luck.

On the gt4 there is a small vinyl cover that once it is removed will allow access to a crude set-up which will allow about 1" or more of up and down movement. It has been a while since i looked at it but all you do is lossen a couple of nuts and the whole assembly can be moved, however the movement is minimal, but may help your problem. I am runing a smaller momo old F1 style racing wheel and it blocks the view of some of the numbers giving me another excuse when I get pulled over ;-)

    Robert,
You may find that there is a collar nut on the column that allows it to telescope, and if you loosen that, you might have more movement available. Worth looking if you want to adjust it more than an inch. I was surprised how much I could adjust the GTB steering wheel once the column length wasn't locked down.

Thanks for bringinging up this question, I just assumed there is no adjustment, so this is good news, I suppose my 328 has the same sort of adjustment, so I will put this little job on my Winter list, along with the clutch.

Yeah, they didn't make it easy to adjust. I figured mine out a while back as well. Its a pain in the ass, but at least it can be done.

Have you looked under the dash? It is real obvious and real easy.

The mounting bracket has slotted holes with bolts through them. Pretty basic.
